Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
In order to keep this thread on topic, I am going to explain what the site is doing in this other thread: Doing the Org's Work This thread should stay on topic of the site hardware while the other thread focuses on the site software. I'll answer the other questions that came up in here while I was a...

Spring Cleaning: Doing the Org's Work
Hey Everyone! Soooooo.... You’re a site member. You’ve been around for a while. You really like AMVs. But, you’re wondering what it up with AnimeMusicVideos.org, its future, and how you can help. Well, I’m here to hopefully answer your questions! It has been talked about a lot but the Org is due for...

Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
Secondly, I will also personally match the largest single cash donation up to $1000; if you give $1000, I will give $1000. I donated $1001 last time (Feb 2009) to ensure this happened. DOKI MADE ME GIVE $1000 TO ANIMEMUSICVIDEOS.ORG!! :D (I like the cheerleader!) :-) https://i228.photobucket.com/al...

Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
Also, how about used server hardware? I've been looking at used SuperMicro boxes for rendering, dual 6 core Westmere x5650's with 48gb ram for like $800. Yeah, they're used servers, but replacement parts are abundant and cheap. Could fill those up with new drives and even keep spares ready to go fo...

Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
I don't have any metrics (nor am I trying to be pessimistic, just basing off some old site traffic graphs I saw awhile ago), but I am doubtful that goal would be reached - or at least in that time frame. Yet you are a Debbie Downer rather than a cheerleader. :-P Quick! Post pics of cheerleaders! :-...

Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
So lets throw in a redundant PSU, raid card and 2 extra 6TB drives. Chassis was included and so were rack rails. From the look of the cart I get some warranty options and the total comes to about 9.5/10K if you want to be fancy. Still has a lot of cash unaccounted for. Specs don't shift that fast s...

Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
I threw everything at the wall exceeding your specs and I'm not coming above $8-9K. All in all $8,298.88 with vast room for expansion. What did I miss? RAID card, dual redundant power supplies, more storage drives (greater redundancy, cold spares), chassis, rack rails, manufacturer warranty, and so...

Re: The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
Can you give us a cost analysis and breakdown for the amount you hope to raise? We're still debating the exact configuration, but a single server with dual quad octo-core Xeon processors, 64GB ram, dual SSDs for system, and a big array of storage drives is in the $12-15k range. We could then segmen...

The Big Bounce: New Server Fund Raiser
Hey Everyone, The site servers have been running nicely for the last few years. In fact, the current server hardware has been running continuously 24/7 for more than 6 years, greatly outliving its original projected lifespan! However, that extended run time is now taking a toll on our trusty rusty m...
