Re: Update for a prodigal child
I'm one of those CCCP naysayers, as [again, correct me if I'm wrong here] unless this has changed, the ffdshow install in it does not include the VFW interface, which is necessary if you want easy* access to HuffYUV's YV12 implementation, or the ability to encode MJPEG for FREE . CCCP has included ...

My advice would be this, minimizing upscaling as much as possible while keeping most of the spatial information intact: 848x464 for 1.85, and 848x352 or 848x368 for 2.35. Still, upscaling is dumb and it's a whole lot easier to just use the same method for every aspect ratio you encounter: 1. Crop aw...

I just tried the same thing myself, and yes, it does seem to crash. A somewhat dumb, but effective workaround is to first mux every raw into Matroska separately, and join these files afterwards. Consider reporting this as a bug.

Re: This streaming topic gets flogged more than Uncle Tom
Some parts of Matz's Ruby implementation do, although (probably owing to both age and the many-cooks thing) the code is not really formatted all that consistently. Check out the source code to Ruby 1.8.6, patchlevel 114, ruby.c for a quick example. There are some notable deviations: return type dec...

yea you can tell people not to but telling people what to do doesn't always work :/ Sure, but like I said, the current model is not fundamentally different. Unless your theory has actually been tested, I don't think it holds up very well. And like Corran mentioned, this can be enforced. For example...

This would only be the case if people who are planning to watch a certain video multiple times, stream these videos each time. In which case it would be more convenient for them to archive these videos anyway. my point exactly :P Then tell people not to; it's not like the current model disallows mu...

the thing is it would be harder on the site's bandwidth and well it's not like we got google paying all of our bills here. what How is downloading an AMV (a.k.a. streaming) any more bandwidth intensive than, you know, downloading an AMV? This would only be the case if people who are planning to wat...

Note to VLC users: After a considerable amount of development, a new version is out. (0.9.2) Does it handle soft ASS/SSA subs correctly and not show comments like it used to? Its softsub support is significantly improved thanks to the addition of libass, previously only used in MPlayer. They did sw...

Don't you guys crop the black junk from the sides? You would need to resize after you do that anyways wouldn't you? That's why most people I know generally overcrop to 704x480. 9 pixel bars of the 720 are technically junk anyway. I personally don't see a lot of reasons not to edit in 720/704x480, b...

(channel numbers - I've still not found a good, simple solution to convert Mono to Stereo like I can with dBpoweramp, which I think just uses channel duplication to do it; there are Stereo to Mono downsampling filters, just none that do the reverse without huge amounts of secondary work) Import("mo...
