Unfortunately, the then-administration deleted all of Way Off Topic
WOT was pruned weekly (I think), so that's to be expected.

OT Archive

Since General Discussion is obviously not going anywhere, why not unhide OT and add it as a subforum similar to the way Video Software Help was handled awhile back? If not, then why not at least make posts visible for search? We're coming up on 12 years since OT/WOT/IAAM were closed, yet these still...

Re: So, I am trying to subtitle an mp4 file....

not quite sure why bad subtitle formats in terrible containers is relevant at all. Everything was cake until you barreled in taking the piss out of things solely because you don't understand them, and you still haven't contributed any facts to the discussion other than the fact that it's painfully ...

Re: So, I am trying to subtitle an mp4 file....

the analogs to those things you mentioned which are explicitly named in the standard don't have any real downsides in comparison In fact, I'd be remiss not to mention that they have some significant advantages; Timed Text is capable of being streamed, HE-AAC blows Vorbis out of the water for low bi...

Re: So, I am trying to subtitle an mp4 file....

ass subtitles, vorbis audio, segment linking (this is pretty shitty but whatever). For one, you can include any kind of stream you want in MP4 in a standardized way. This is how e.g. ALAC, which has nothing to do with MPEG, has been wrapped in MP4 exclusively from the start. There's zero difference...

Re: So, I am trying to subtitle an mp4 file....

mp4 sucks, only thing it's good for is devices which don't support mkv. And with mp4 you kinda don't have a choice but to hardsub if you want something that works everywhere so stop trying to save or argue a terrible container. MP4 is capable of the same level of functionality as MKV, while having ...

Re: So, I am trying to subtitle an mp4 file....

3GP is not the same as MP4 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b7/Relations_between_ISO_MP4_3GPP_and_3GPP2_file_format.svg/500px-Relations_between_ISO_MP4_3GPP_and_3GPP2_file_format.svg.png They are interchangeable for a certain range of features, of which Timed Text is one. Which...

Man, this MPEG-4 Timed Text support sure is horrible. It's like nothing plays it.

Re: So, I am trying to subtitle an mp4 file....

lavf won't demux it. Wrong. Adobe however supports only TTXML (a bluray subtitle format that nobody uses, similar to SSA4 and Kate). Sony only support muxing TTXT but not playing it back. Relevant in what way? MP4 is a production format, not an editing format. Apple don't support it at all. Both Qu...

Oh heaven's no, both apps are produced by the same company. Why sell one great product with full functionality when you can make more money selling multiple different ones that do very little!

Re: Macintosh Software List (IN PROGRESS, INCOMPLETE)

Here's a neat audio editor that can actually do lossless editing ops on mp3 and aac, haven't seen anything else like it: http://www.rogueamoeba.com/fission/ (32 bux) ya missed one; "Audio Hi-Jack" .. This little puppy allows you to Record from Anything .. ANYTHING! .. :shark: Yeah, I've used that b...
