Re: New, stable editing software? (Windows 7, 64-bit)

Good to know. The avis I made last night use UTVideo. I played around a bit on Vegas to see if it worked. So far so good. I'll definitely keep your suggestions in mind when I export.

Re: New, stable editing software? (Windows 7, 64-bit)

Probably one of the ones from an older version of the AMVApp package (I made the clips a few years ago). I have the newest versions on my current computer, so it could very well be the right one isn't installed. Anyway, I dug up the old vobs and just made new avis with the current codec. Now it work...

Re: New, stable editing software? (Windows 7, 64-bit)

Hmm, I'm trying to give Vegas a shot now. I have the trial version up and running, but it's giving me an error when I try to import my avi video files. It says it cannot open the codec. I think I have the right codec installed on my computer. After all, I can open the videos without issue in VLC. Am...

New, stable editing software? (Windows 7, 64-bit)

Thanks in part to advice I got on the forum here, and in part to a wonderful, well-timed sale, I finally bit the bullet and got myself a much-needed new computer. Now I seem to be living out a tech version of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" as I make a few additional purchases for my new computer. Ne...

Re: Graphics Card Decisions

Thanks, that helps a bit. Follow up question: Assuming a similar price range and similar features, which combination is preferred?: 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M Processor (2.4 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) Turbo Boost to 3.0 GHz with 1GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7470M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics(TM) [HDMI, V...

Graphics Card Decisions

I'm in the market for a new computer, in particular a laptop. I found a really good price on a customizable HP Pavilion dv6z Quad Edition Entertainment PC, with specs options better than my current desktop. While I haven't edited recently as much as I used to (I'd mostly be using this computer for d...

Re: Can. Not. Upload. *headdesk* (Time sensitive!)

Thanks for the advice. Actually, you were dead-on about the connection. (I just forgot to post that I got it uploaded.) It was sheer luck that a day and a half before the deadline I was visiting my aunt across the state who has an incredible internet connection. That did the trick. Thankfully, I tho...

Can. Not. Upload. *headdesk* (Time sensitive!)

Man, this is not my month for technology. I finally have a completed, pretty, encoded AMV and I'm trying to upload it to the Metrocon AMV contest. As instructed in the rules, I made it into an Xvid avi with 2 seconds of blank footage at the beginning. My video is 4min 20sec long (including the blank...

Re: Double Checking For Contest Entry

That's pretty much what I did. Thanks for letting me know I was on the right track. I appreciate it.

Re: Double Checking For Contest Entry

Thanks for all your help. I'm reading 4-5 guides at once and it gets a little tricky for me to put it all together at some points. So, I've got most of that, but the problem is that even though I must have installed and re-installed it 6 times by now, Lame MP3 still is not appearing as an option at ...

Re: Double Checking For Contest Entry

Okay, so how do I make sure I have the correct aspect ratio and great audio for this when encoding in Xvid through virtualdub?

Re: Double Checking For Contest Entry

Thanks. Well, the con prefers Xvid, so I'm doing my best to blend the two guides and figure out how to do it that way. Any suggestions for how to get the best Xvid video for a con?

Re: Double Checking For Contest Entry

Sorry for the double post, but while I was awaiting a reply, I ran some test videos, and I noticed I can't get to Lame ACM on virtualdub. I downloaded the new AMVApp, unpacked/installed the LameACM.exe (or whatever the file is) - twice - rebooted my computer, and it's still not showing up in the opt...

Double Checking For Contest Entry

I want to make absolutely sure I'm doing this right, so I'm just looking for a quick confirmation from someone who knows. I finally finished my video and I want to send it in to Metrocon's contest today (I won't have a chance after that). So, here's the thing. Looking at the guide, I have this situa...

Ulead "Sprinkler" Effect?

I'm making a Haruhi AMV on Ulead VideoStudio 10 Plus and I need a scene to go with the line "Put a sprinkler on the lawn." Unfortunately, the footage I have is distinctly sprinkler-free. I was thinking of taking a shot of a lawn (or field, park, whatever) and adding an effect that looks like an arc ...
