By request, an image gallery of most of the special "funny sauce" in this AMV is available. These are not high-res images, however it's a good way to get a look at things which otherwise are difficult to view. Commentary is included - just click on an image to see it up close and personal!

'Bustin is intended to be hands-down, in-your-face FUN Advent Children AMV, that's it - not an action flick, not a soap opera, not a badly lip-synced collection of one-liners that passes as a comedy AMV because people can get away with that in this AMV Hell world we live in - just a FUN Advent Children AMV. The Internet could certainly use more of them...

So how did I come up with 'Bustin? Well, all I've ever wanted to do with Advent Children is turn it upside down, give it a good shake and see what falls out. Not many people do this, not many people even think it's worth doing, but I am determined to prove that, while AC has a very bad reputation for inspiring cookie-cutter AMVs, it doesn’t have to be that way. AC is NOT an AMV wasteland. Yes, its action/drama angle has been exhaustively covered in a rather narrow way, but its potential in other genres is rarely exploited. What this means is that there is still a lot of mileage to be gotten out of the footage if we can just get past how seriously it takes itself. In fact, as I hope 'Bustin illustrates, this very seriousness makes a fantastic springboard for all kinds of humorous scenarios, because it’s quite outrageous to manhandle such material in the first place.

Because my concept depended heavily upon getting the most laughs out of AC that I possibly could, when it came down to a choice between making an action scene and making a funny scene, I deferred to the latter. It's extremely easy to be sucked into AC's allure and I had to restrain myself more than a few times when I got too hyped about making things look cool because, 9 times out of 10, it was at the expense of comedy. Fortunately, I got a freer pass to use AC's natural inclinations as the AMV progressed, because the Ghostbusters movie itself becomes more involved, more serious as it goes along - the plot falls into place one chunk of cheese at a time until things come down to the wire and you're cheering the guys on when they turn into bonafide heroes.

And speaking of cheese...I tried to be cheddar-like with my editing not because I'm a fan of such things, but because it's part of the Ghostbusters experience. I suppose you could say the concept forced my hand in the editing department, which is what a concept should do. This AMV is actually not very representative the kind of editing I typically would choose, which partly explains why it took me so long to make. (What's in the credits was my little stab at instant self-gratification, as far as that goes, and my train of thought was basically "The heck with consistency, I'm going to throw together something that's FUN to work on!")

    Bustin Fun Facts:

    - I spent 4 months and over 200 hours on this AMV: about 160 hours for pure video editing and about 60 hours pre/post editing and graphic design. Software included a hefty portion of the Adobe Creative Suite - Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop - plus of course the AMVapp.

The explanation for the 200 hours:
I have decided that I am really bad at video editing because otherwise it wouldn't take me so long. Ignoring the fact for the moment that this is only my second AMV and so you must forgive my lack of experience (which is somewhat of a lie and yet another story), what gets me into trouble is my two-part creative philosophy: a) I work on something until I get it the way I want it and b) if something is not working it gets tossed no matter how long I've spent on it. This philosophy is also known as insanity.

Still, how the HECK did I spend 200 hours on an AMV that, in fact, is a very simply edited, fairly straightforward video (on purpose...see cheddar, above) that - technically speaking - is not all that difficult to construct??
Well, for one thing, there are three or four 1-5 second sequences in this AMV that took me 20-30 hours apiece; so right there maybe 20-30 seconds of this video took me 100 hours. Most people wouldn't have needed 100 hours to finish those sequences, they could have done it in a quarter of the time (or much less) - this is my creative philosophy and inexperience causing trouble. However, when you consider that 100 of the 160 hours spend editing 'Bustin was only for 20-30 seconds OF the video, it makes how quickly I put together the rest of this AMV really quite acceptable (especially considering this is me we're talking about).
Then there's that 50 hours spent on the graphics - were they really that difficult? No, in fact, they were the EASY part of this AMV. I am a graphic designer, I do this kind of stuff for a living. What happened was that they all had to be redone many, many times for many, many reasons in many, many ways as this project evolved. They all look quite similar to the way they did when I first designed them, but there's a lot that went on behind the scenes to make them appear the way they eventually did in the AMV.

    - I did have permission to use the nicknames of the two individuals who "appear" in this AMV.

    - The Ghostbusters symbol is not consistently and left- or right-facing even on movie memorabilia. I went with a left-facing symbol because the handle of the Buster Sword wouldn't fit the other way.

    - THE INFAMOUS RED TEXT OF DOOM: It's not my fault. That's all vector text created in Premiere. It looks horrible because it's red. It made me really mad too, so I came up with the half-baked excuse that having the cheesy red text come out soooo very bad and amateurish makes it look even more authentic. :) Not a lot of people buy this excuse...but still. It's not my fault.

    - I have no idea what TNN stands for. I plagiarized a Dirge of Cerberus FMV, if you're wondering why it looks so very familiar.

    - USA Today makes a marked number of appearances in the original Ghostbusters movie. I was quite amused to find that several bright blue things also appear during Advent Children's downtown attack sequence; you can still see a few of them in this AMV.

    - There is a need to take responsibility for something that is obviously not lip flap, so I have to state that I did try to lip sync several scenes. Other than picking a certain clip and placing it in a certain way on the timeline, however, I did absolutely nothing to affect how well it was synced...

Many thanks to beta testers Amo-Chan (who gets lots of kudos for the line "We TOLD you not to cross the Lifestream!"), dokidoki, Emong and Knowname for their advice and support.

Lyrics? We need lyrics? Oh all right, this song is a poster child for bad
grammar and I couldn't figure them out myself until I looked them up...

If there's something strange in your neighborhood
    Who you gonna call?
    Ghostbusters!
If there's something weird and it don't look good
    Who you gonna call?
    Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

If you're seeing things running through your head
    Who can you call?
    Ghostbusters!

An invisible man sleeping in your bed
    Oh, who you gonna call?
    Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

    Who you gonna call?
    Ghostbusters!

If you're all alone, pick up the phone
    And call
    Ghostbusters!

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I hear it likes the girls
I ain't afraid of no ghost
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

    Who you gonna call?
    Ghostbusters!

If you've had a dose of a freaky ghost
    You'd better call
    Ghostbusters!

    Let me tell you something
    Bustin' makes me feel good

I ain't afraid of no ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost

Don't get caught alone, oh no

    Ghostbusters!

When it comes through your door
Unless you just want some more
    I think you better call
    Ghostbusters!

    Who you gonna call
    Ghostbusters!....
