    *Spoiler Warning*

For those who've seen Advent Children, it might seem like this is a retelling of the basic story - but not really so.

It is mainly from the perspective of Cloud, who starts out very much alone. Basically, he begins with a vivid dream where he is surrounded by people he cares about, including a few that are no longer in this world. He comes back to his reality - one where he's closed off from everyone, yet his mind keeps wandering back to Aerith -- and the guilt he feels for being unable to save her. At the same time, he also worries about Tifa but is unable to get over Aerith.
Throughout his journey and the enemies he has to face, he learns to accept that with victory, friendship plays a huge part. He finally comes to terms with his purpose for being here.
In his final battle, he sacrifices himself (using all his power and strength) to defeat his greatest enemy for the sake of the world, but he is jolted back to life and brought down to earth once again, where he ends up fulfilling the dream he foresaw at the beginning. He then says a silent goodbye to his spiritual friends, giving them a smile, thanking them for their help along the way.

    Lyrics:
    I have often dreamed
    Of a far off place
    Where a hero's welcome
    Would be waiting for me
    Where the crowds will cheer
    When they see my face
    And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be

    I'll be there someday
    I can go the distance
    I will find my way
    If I can be strong
    I know ev'ry mile
    Will be worth my while
    When I go the distance
I'll be right where I belong

    Down an unknown road
    To embrace my fate
    Though the road may wander
It will lead me to you
    And a thousand years
    Would be worth the wait
    It may take a lifetime
But somehow I'll see it through

    And I won't look back
    I can go the distance
    And I'll stay on track
    No I won't accept defeat
    It's an uphill slope
    But I won't lose hope
    Till I go the distance
    And my journey is complete

But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part
For a hero's strength is measured by his heart

    Like a shooting star
    I can go the distance
    I will search the world
    I will face its harms
    I don't care how far
    I can go the distance
    TillI find my hero's welcome
    Waiting in your arms...

    I will search the world
    I will face its harms
    TillI find my hero's welcome
    Waiting in your arms...
