My first BAD review.

Post by SamuraiJake » Wed May 09, 2007 8:31 pm

This subject is is regards to my AMV "Blazing Trigun"

I've always expected that I would eventually get some bad reviews for my AMV work, but I never expected this:

2007-05-09 19:44:56 You DEFINITELY need to work on file compression.

2007-05-09 18:41:06 What the fuck... Dude, how did you get stuck in the year 2000? Your aspect ratio was incorrect, the file is fucking huge, looks god damn ugly and your editing... even Sailor Earth does better! That's bad. Seriously, why are you using mpeg-2? It's the year 2007! And what's this fan-base you're talking about in your profile? Do you mean your parents? Look around the org, please and wake up from whatever dream you're in. At least have that much sense left in you to look around this site, and see what an actually GOOD AMV looks like. Unbelievable...

That said, I can take a hint and I don't mind constructive critcism, but for God's sake give me a LITTLE credit!!! I could rationalize by saying that this was one of my first AMV's, or that my equipment isn't up-to-date, but no. I want to defend my videos (yes all of them) by saying that you two people missed the entire point of my AMV's: to present a fresh perspective on certain anime with movie trailers which draw a parallel to make a fun little video. I've even won some awards for my videos, and I have to wonder if the people who hated my video have ever made one themselves.

This makes me sick, very sick and very pissed off. However, I'm not posting this to complain or seek moral support. If anything, I'd like to talk to the two critics who posted so I can find some closure with them. I'll graciously take a bad review if it's founded in logical reasoning, but this is just wrong.

Hopefully none of you have recieved these kind of reviews. If my video is bad or can me improved somehow let me know, but please not like this.

I've never seen any of your videos, but here's what I think:

I'd say this counts as legitimate constructive criticism. As far as I can see, all your links are for MPEG-2 versions of your videos, which aren't the best for computer playback, and they're also all very big files. It doesn't take too much practice to be able to shrink your file sizes considerably while still retaining most of the video quality; you can read more on that here:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/
(See the lower portion that deals with compressing AMVs for distribution)

This, on the other hand, is mostly just flaming. The commenter may have a point with <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... correcting the aspect ratio</a> (I don't know because I haven't seen the video in question), but just ignore most of the rest of it. People do leave QC's like this occasionally, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Though I personally have somehow managed to avoid ever getting one yet.

dude that is one huge donkey file for a 2 min amv - the advice is legit - encode your amvs better when releasing on the internet. thats probably the only way your going to get closure.

the second one was a flame though, but occasionally you will get rude people. it's like anything else, you have good and bad in everything. I wouldn't get discouraged though, just drop back five and put like meh sensei says

I agree with some of this, but...

Sorry for whining, but I can’t see this as anything but a stupid comment. I did work hard on this, over 13 hours with hardly any rest. The lip syncing was very hard, making the file repeatedly crashed my computer, and I could only work off of a VHS copy. I didn’t use a VHS for the editing, but that’s my reason for such a scratchy file. Now, I think the responses I’m getting will make me invest in a file compressor, but come on. Give me a break. It’s poor quality I know, but honestly how many AMV’s have you made?

For those people who are giving me good advice, thank you.

For the love of God, don't. VirtualDubMod and the XviD, x264, and LAME MP3 codecs are all completely free and do an excellent job. If you pay for a video compressor, you're getting ripped off.

I would have also mentioned a free AAC codec, except I forget what the one I have is called because it's been months since I've used it.
