Can avatars go beyond 16kb?

I thought it was ok to go above that if it is uploaded to another server. Well apparently not..

Dear x_rex30,

your avatar was removed for being too big according to the org forum
rules. The maximum allowed image size is 100 x 100 pixels with a file
size of 16kb. Please follow the forum rules in the future.

My avatar was within 100x100 offsite, so I thought it was ok to go beyond 16k if it was hosted somewhere else, or was their a new rule added that you CAN'T go beyond 16kb NO MATER WHAT since this new rule of 100 by 100 pixels started? Maybe I heard wrong.

There's been a bit of confusion about that, as when it was changed the size limit for off-site avatars was not directly addressed.

It's currently being discussed.

Yeah, I got the same message, and I thought the same thing.

I was a bit confused.

Especially being allowed 80kb offsite with the 80x80 ones, so I thought we'd be allowed at least that offsite with the new 100x100.

(And I had replied to the email with the same confusion, but you can ignore that as long as the end result of the discussions get posted here.)

I think it was 46kb though

We have decided to go with a 40 kb limit for offsite avatars. The forum rules thread has been updated to reflect the new limits but we should probably change our form letter at some point.

You may also wish to include some text stating the 40 kb limit in the 'Link to off-site Avatar:' section in the member's profile avatar control panel.

(There goes my full-sized Haruhi animated gif. I was going to change it to my Mahoro xmas avatar anyways...)
