Footage theft

Post by AnarchicQ » Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:46 pm

Ok, I have a question:

What do I do if I have proof of another video ganking my footage?

My videos have an "unregistered" in the upper left hand corner, and some of another video have the same "unregistered" in some of the clips in there video. More over, some of it is edited in the same way as mine. I took a lot of time on my video and they just...ganked it. About half there video is MY amv.

Opinions? Options?

I'll provide links to the videos in question if requested.

leave a post in the mod box.
Here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... m.php?f=22

Provide links to both videos, and briefly, yet accurately, describe the situation.

Thank you, but I'm not sure the video is actually on a-m-v.org. I found it on youtube.

If the Video is on another site, there isn't anything the mods here can do about it.

I'd do a search and see if it's on this site and follow the suggestions listed above. And before you get upset at your own post: YouTube has a word filter on it that makes it read as Hosatchel. Hosatchel has a word filter on it because the mods here get asked about it so much that they've come to hate the original word as though it were the breath of satan. In fact, I might get banned for just using a workaround.

Thank you, I noticed the filter but am not authorized to edit my posts...so...

I wasn't exactly asking for modly help, but I was asking for community opinion. IE: What is the general community's view on footage 'theft'?

i searched a-m-v.org and have not come across the AMV in question. Bummer.
Ah well.

Everybody hates it, but reluctantly admits that beyond mass spamming of 'uTube accounts there isn't much that can be done about it. If you do a search for Hosatchel instead, you'll probably find a ton of threads on the subject.

AMVs are footage theft by nature.

Wow. That isn't true. I don't mind it, I don't think AMV4000 minds it that much and pilkington as well. And also there is the argument that amvers take footage without asking therefor amvers should stop bitching. So what does the general community's view on footage theft?? Well they love it because they are guilty of it all the time.

So, you're cool when people take your effects and put them in their own videos? Or when people cut out your credits and replace them with their own? Footage theft isn't the same as somebody just uploading your video and saying 'lolz I found an awsm video today". The argument about AMVers not owning the rights to the video is irrelevant to arguing whether or not people like their effort being pawned off by some hack.

But, I suppose I'm willing to amend my statement to :

MOST people hate footage theft. Some commies don't seem to mind it though, so please consider their libraries as a valid source of footage. This whole thing is about a YouTube problem anyway, so it's all pointless.

haha I wouldn't call that the same. I think its pretty obvious we didn;t animate the show ourselves. however when people steel our edits, unsupecting people may give credit for those edits to the steeler of the footage rather than the rightfull owner of the original amv. thus there is a difference.

Personally I make amvs for my own enjoyment and the enjoyment of whoever happens to like them, more than any kindof fame (not like your going to get much fame for AMV making anyway) so I personally don't care so much.
