I bet the thematic has gotten at least a few of you interested, mmm?

Just a quick intro here for interest-gauge purposes, more detail will be posted later.

DepreCon
This is a fairly modest but well-supported contest being run by two fairly well-known Russian websites frequented by the AMV community - UtenaFan (not just a Utena fansite, more of an anime community) and Great Dragon Dale (an online magazine). Those who can read Russian are asked to go here for detailed rules:
http://utenafan.org.ru/ufforum/topic.ph ... &topic=174
Rather than general AMV contests, they run their events by themes. For the previous one, the "Cold War" contest, entries had to be using music written during the Cold War era. This time, the theme is obviously depression. "Cold War" ran successfully and had some rather neat winning videos; one non-Russian editor, Orwell, participated - which proved that the language barrier here is no barrier after all.
Accepted genres obviously include drama (tragedy, or just plain depressive angst), horror, and also dark comedy. If you plan to complete a new video of one of these types between now and about October 15-21st, do consider entering by all means. This is when the entries are due; judging will be done by forum member voting (entrants may participate in this too, I will help with it) at the two above-mentioned websites, and the results are due for - you may have guessed already - Halloween.
More detailed technical specifications will be posted in case of interest. The main thing to keep in mind is that two versions of your video will need to be presented (both preferably DivX-compatible) - one of about 40-50mb size; the other - no more than 10mb for preview and for the benefit of the many Russian members with low bandwith.
Prizes?
Yes, there will be prizes. As the contest is run by some fairly odd folks well-versed in music, the prizes will be musical rarities - both Western and Russian CDs that are very hard to find and may be of interest to the connoisseurs among you. More importantly, of course, who wouldn't want to win the title of "most depressing video"?

There are going to be several categories, all with prizes (exact list still being worked on). One definite category is Best Video by Foreign Editor, assuming at least several of you are interested.

Anyway, those who may be interested and think they can pull a nice depressive video in the next month - post here. Questions - post here.
I've officially been asked to help represent the con here, so I'll handle all mediation between English-speaking contestants and organizers.
Thank you hippies.
