PLEASE. Edit button.

Post by Hagaren Viper » Fri Apr 07, 2006 1:08 am

I'm sure this has been asked before, but an edit button would be SO nice. I could use it in the Opinion Exchange alone, so if you are dumb like me and forget to put the link to you AMV (eheh), or you want to say 'Okay, can you OP this video instead?'

If not could we get a curse filter? Do we honestly need people cursing randomly on this site?

Short answer, no, we can't get an edit button (use the search feature to find at least 20 threads on why).

And the language issue... fuck it.

I don't think anyone will mind if you post more than once in an op exchange thread. Being able to edit posts in that section wouldn't really do anything good unless it's limited to the person who created the thread (so he can update his original post as he gets each op done, etc). If everyone could edit their posts, we'd have people changing their mind, going back on their word, or just rewriting their posts to alter the exchange they originally agreed to. We already have enough of that in the op exchange without being able to edit posts. But, yeah, for the creator of the thread, an edit button would be very useful.

As for a language-filter, this has been brought up before and since most of the people on this site are old enough to watch uncut anime (with all the violence, language, and content it comes with), no one seemed to want a filter in the forum. We didn't even get a filter in the amv cateloge to block hentai vids (for those who prefer not to accidentally download one of those) - and people actually *wanted* a filter for that sort of content.

Most forum-posters see bad language like noob-speak - sure, it can be annoying in mass quantities, but that's what you get on a forum where anyone can join and post. We do have some boycotted words, like bath-girl being turned into "girl with pretty eyes". I don't see the need to replace words so random posts are spotted with comments like "Seriously, it's a bunch of feces," "I'm really urined-off about that," and "that was the plan until he fornicated it up." ^_^;

Sure, it's more sanitary, but we still know what they're saying. Even if you go the FF7 route and *(&*^*% words out, those who wish to express themselves will just start using 'mother-focker' and 'shite' and 'biotch' instead of the banned words, in order to express themselves the same way they do now. I don't see the point even trying. Unless they're used in a flame (which *is* against the rules), bad words are just words our parents didn't want us using on the playground for their own personal reasons.

And also, anyone who really wants to swear can easily get around a word filter. If they bothered to think about it.
