I would like to think that this contest was an inspiration for other lighting round competitions that have occurred since, but I am sure someone else innovated this concept before me, and have probably done it better since.
Ok, self depreciation done...now, to update this old old issue.
The reason that this has taken me so long, as many of you may know, is that right after the 7.53 second contest occurred, literally within a month, I deployed with the Army to Iraq, where I am to this day. However, my duties have reached a bit of a lull, and I finally have time to devote to this. Everyone that was involved in the competition was promised that the qualified entries would be edited together into a MEP...with the singular exception of a certain, uhhhh..."lip" sync video entered by godix starring someone else who's name starts with the letter "g" (and ends with the letter "oatse")
This ended up being a bit of an undertaking, since the PARs, frame rates, codecs, etc were all over the map. However, with the help of Fall_Child42 and IcyCloud, I have begun mastering them all together, and have roughed out a transition clip. Here's where the project stands:
- Solicit Clips during contest -complete
Judge Clips and award prizes - complete
Collect Qualified clips for MEP - complete
Script avs files for re-master - complete
Procrastinate for seven months - complete
Realize PAR is pooched, and re-script avs files - complete
render remastered clips into standardized huffyuv files - complete
edit transition clip for video separation -complete
solicit studio watermarks for participants - complete
edit intro and credit clips - complete
render beta project - complete
release beta project to testers - complete
make corrections from beta testers - pending
render final project and release - pending
burn master copies for participants - pending
confirm mailing and distribute DVDs - pending
Next, if anyone out there would like to volunteer for either the credit roll or the intro bumper, please let me know. I will do it myself, but if anyone else feels driven to do it, I'll take your input. If you can send me an AE project file, that's preferrable, but a raw encode would be fine, too. I can send you the data I have for these segments if you need it.
It looks like the project, when complete, will be roughly 6:30 long, with 41 separate qualified clips from 26 editors. I will update via this thread (if it doesn't get locked) as the project progresses. Target for release is 1 March 2006.
If any of you photoshop gurus out there would like to make a project banner for participants, that would be great too...
And thank you for your infinite patience!!!
