Adding a 'Sentimental' [and Instrumental] Category

I know this has been suggested already (maybe even by mean in the past), but I think it warrants another post since there still isn't a Sentimental category

. Think about it this way, wasn't it a pain looking through every single video made in 2003 to find your "Best Sentimental" nominees for the VCAs?

If we have a separate category for it in the VCAs, I think that in itself should warrant it being a category choice like drama, action, horror, etc. If you look at it, most of the categories for the VCAs are choices in the database and thus it makes it that much easier to find such videos. And most of us don't already consider Sentimental to be a type of video right?

Please make this change. I imagine it wouldn't take all that much work, but I could be wrong...

What *IS* sentimental? I never quite understood. Why doesnt it just go in drama or serious?

"Sentimental" is something that has too many different interpretations. It's more vague than "romance" which it's often confused with. Light romance might be classed as "sentimental", but so would a story about children.

About the only consistent aspect is "light emotional tone", if that makes sense. Or maybe, "lack of intense emotion". Combined with some degree of sappiness or cheese.

My Webster's shows this vagueness and contradiction:

sentimental - ...3. weakly emotional, mawkishly susceptible or tender...4. characterized by...refined feeling.

"Mawkishly" emotional is not consistent with "refined feeling". So, I guess you can take your pick.

May I suggest that, if the categories do in fact get added, it might be a good idea to up the max suggested number of categories per video to 4.

I would like to suggest any category that helps me find something more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Maybe Sentimental is more useful for contests but I find it difficult to find an instrumental amv by simply browsing for them.
