AMVs at GameStop.

Post by x_rex30 » Mon Jul 26, 2004 9:51 pm

I was at game stop today checking out some games and anime when all the sudden, they started playing AMVs on the big screen. I was like "holly *%#@"!!! First one I saw them play was VicBonds Die Another Day, then later Tunaks Shoujo Tribute. I feel like some of you may find some sort of interest in this, so I decided I should probably mention it.

Shouldn't they have at least asked the creators first?

For some reason, part of me hopes that GameStop will be slapped with a lawsuit for public performance of unauthorized derivatives of copyrighted works.

It's not bloody likely to happen, and it'd be really bad if it did, but it'd also just be terrifically funny.

Well, I think it'd be funny.

They just mix it in there block of video game previews. And I would hate for that to happen, gamestop is one of the best places for games where I live, and I would hate for me to be responsible for them being slapped with some sort of a lawsuit.

Maybe they did!!! But wouldn't you be like thrilled to hear your video is being played on some big screen in some store??? Who wouldn't?? Some would get mad, while others will get thrilled.

I shouldn't think they'd mind, just as long as they took no credit.

But trythil, if Gamespot got sued that would put pressure on this site, which would not be funny at all. At least I'd expect that to happen.

I could probably go there later and ask them to stop playing them, and ask permission from the creators first.

To be honest this has happened before, actually when i worked at best buy i got so goddamn bored i popped on a CD full of AMV's every day and just made the list get bigger and bigger. I had it randomly play videos on one of the larger screened display computers. all my co-workers enjoyed it cuz it was something different to watch, and the customers thought so too. My boss eventually got pissed and had me take them down (lawsuits and stuff). but at that time i never really asked first because it was more ore less just for my friends and my enjoyment. however eventually i started asking people and taking a poll on who wanted their vids played, got good responses and most of them were already playing in my list :)
