AMV illegal or not?
Maybe this question was answered already, but i was wondering...is AMVs Illegal? Technically, people are using video clips and music from copyrighted sources... and so forth. So what do you guys think?

Yes, it has been answered already. Searching the forums will reveal tons of old threads devoted to this same question.
The answer I've heard most often is that making AMVs per se is not illegal, it's distributing them that's illegal.
However, the companies that distribute the anime titles we use don't seem to mind, because it's free advertising for their titles and they know it. Some even sponsor AMV contests (AnimEigo, for example, donated some prizes to last year's VCAs).
And the RIAA hasn't come after us yet.

Also read this law if you are worried aobut the illegalities of the music you're using.
As for me, I don't think I'm distributing over $1,000 worth of music during any given 180-day period, but I'll keep an eye on it.

One of the MODS should make that thread a sticky. This question gets asked more than once a weekbadmartialarts wrote:Read this thread.

[MOD99: As the other members have already pointed you to the other threads and the law, I'm locking this. As to making it a sticky, I don't think that it really needs to be one, as it doesn't come up quite that often.]
