  Half an angel ego is my first completed amv project, featuring a beginner editors attempt of multilevel (lip, lyric, action) sync video. The main idea is to portray the fun dualistic personality of the main character Risky / Safety (dominantly from Risky´s perspective) and her violently wavering inner conflict.

  The idea for the video started taking shape upon the Animenation release of Omishi magical theater - Risky Safety. The anime series in question introduces a rather interesting main character - A combination of a cunning/evil apprentice shinigami "Risky" and a melodramatically moral/good apprentice angel "Safety" sharing a single body, both struggling for its dominance. I found this inner conflict an interesting aspect to portray in a video, and started planning the project as a simple drama / character profile. At that time I had already developed an effective grudge towards the pesky angel (Safety) speaking formal japanese, so it was unquestionable from the beginning that the immensely more interesting Risky would be the central character of the video. Rediscovery of Rammstein´s song "Engel" finally gave the grounds for taking her to the spotlight : The lead singer of the song is someone who doesn´t want to be / become an angel, and the chorus is sung by a rather desperate angel voice. A lipsync duet was inevitable.
  
  A thing that I was rather worried about in the beginning was the fact that there was already a popular Engel-lipsync, Kevin Caldwell's "Engel". However, after pondering on the theme and the story I wanted to build, and asking people's opinions about this I thought my video had a different view-point and character relation, and hence it seemed okay to start on my own interpretation on Engel (Rammstein's song, that is).
  
  At first I was rather excited about syncing and planned the scenes very carefully, but towards the end the video became a true burden to carry through, partially due to my inexperience in editing, and on the other hand due to the fact that I was racing against the Animecon III video entry deadline. In order to produce an acceptable entry I in a way used the shortcut route and loaded the end with the corny low budget (hooray, evangelion) scifi-parody / mecha scenes (that stand out violently), and compromised with the lipsync proportion towards the end. Even now, ironically, the video feels only half complete to me., but still somewhat reflects what it was supposed to in the first place.
  
  No big tech video here, I also find the atmosphere of the video somewhat dull, but it was kinda nice trying out out things.

  "Half an angel ego" premiered and was voted the best action video at Animecon III (10th - 11th July 2004), in the first official Finnish amv competition, with a stunning ~1000 spectators present.
