  Its a little hard to understand his plight if you have not seen the whole story. For those of you who have not seen Shaman King, Faust is a necromancer who is trying to resurrect his murdered wife. So it is a story about love and lost love. What he is searching for is the essence of life. He searches around Manta (the little kid) to find that which he needs to revive his lost love. The only other way he can bring back his wife is by becoming the Shaman King and he will reach it at any means necessary. And in his quest, he can lose control in his lamentation.
