  • Comments: Alright, this is the remastered edition of my Boredom Kills video. The following is a bit long, so skip on down, nothing critical to watching the video is here.

    The Concept:
Basically, Lain discovers the org on the wired, and sees her first (cliche) AMV. Originally I used Evanescence and Evangelion for the spoof AMV, since those appear to be some of the most over used animes and artists. She then makes the ultimate error of searching for Linkin Park, with amusing results.

    Why Remastered?:
Funny story. I finished production of this video almost a year back. Like I said, I originally I used Evanescence for the spoof AMV, but almost immediately after I finished it, I heard about Evanescence videos being banned on the org. So, I patted myself on the back for completing the video, and resigned myself to never share it. But, several months later, I was watching the video and saw tons of problems besides the use of Evanescence. For one thing, the video editing was drawn out and dull. There were interlacing errors galore. Pillaging and rape were rampant! Well, anyway, I thought "Damn! I wish I could go back and fix this thing up. But then, looking through my hard drive, lo and behold, I still had the source files! So back to editing I went, cleaned up the video, replaced the audio, and cut it down a bit, fixed the subtitles, and POOF! remastered edition.

    Video quality:
When I made this video I was relatively new to AMVs. My idea of getting source footage was using DVD Decrypter, and then ripping the VOBs with a DVD ripper. I made the further error of, get ready, compressing my source footage. ...with DivX. As a result, my video quality was horrible. I also had major interlacing problems. I tried to fix up this video using deen and deinterlacing filters in AVISynth, but it's no replacement for good source footage, hope its not too distracting. The interlacing is still pretty noticeable, but believe me, its better than it was before.

    The songs used:
The opening song comes from the FF9 soundtrack, and is one of the first songs that's heard. No real reason I chose it, despite the fact I thought it worked. As for the "Beautiful Addiction" song, I hate that song. I don't listen to it, I have no idea who "The Big Tease" is, and I'm annoyed I had to pay .99 for a song I detest. I wanted a song that was blatantly about a beautiful addiction, so I searched through songs on iTunes after searching for Addiction. Keep in mind, this is when I had dial up, so previewing took a while, and after listening to some pretty bizarre stuff, I found this song that fit perfectly. But, I still hate it, god bless it.

    Visual Effects:
For the segments where lain types something in ("Linkin Park" and "animemusicvideos.org") I did not create the whole sentence and use a mask to reveal it letter by letter. No, I created 20 titles, that looked like this:
    a
    an
    ani
    anim
    anime
    animem
And so on. Same for Linkin Park. Wow that was tedious, thank god for masks. Also, the bit with Lain's hand touching the screen was done using chroma key. That's a hell I never want again. Again, thank god for masks.
The scene with the exploding window was done without masks. Lain is originally at the middle bottom. The trick to get around this is obvious, the shards of glass disappear, and if you look closely, the roof sort of splits at one point. That's because I took two freeze frames of lain running out (the background didn't change), and put them together so that it was just the house with no lain at the bottom. I then used a garbage mask to cut off the top part of this still frame sans lain, and voila, exploding window!

What the hell took so long?:
Well, just before this was finished, my external hard drive was corrupted. All of my AMVs sat in limbo for about 2 months as I got my hard drive recovered, and then I had to wait about a month more for the graphic artist to get the stuff together, and then another week of post processing and subtitle timing. Yeah, it took a while.

    Graphic Artist?:
You'll notice that this is a collab piece. I did all of the editing, but all of the original graphic design work (the border, the download another screen) was done by my friend Anjie. I dunno how she makes photoshop do stuff like that. Probably threatens it with a gun or something. Anyway, she was a huge help, my attempts at graphic design were horrendous, and I thank her deeply for it.

    Finally!
I would also like to thank: Kit, Zarxrax, Dokidoki, Zero1, inthesto, coderjoe, and any other people from the #AMV channel that helped me out and put up with my innane questions. Thanks all.

    And with that said, enjoy!
