The first of three vids made to fill slots in the 2002 fall BAS demo, Shin Hatsubai #38 has got to set a record for ratio of source to original, and may be the only video ever made from another single music video. So it's a re-direction, and I changed the music; mostly cool and huge Miyazaki fans will probably not think that I messed up the original too much.
About the music: "Dreamer Deceiver" was originally written by Judas Priest, and released on their second album, Sad Wings of Destiny in 1976. It was covered by English folk/thrash metal band Skyclad for a tribute album allegedly released in Europe in the late 1990s, but no source has yet been able to specify the album or label.
Shin Hats Self-Grade: B+. Both audio and video fidelity leave something to be desired, but overall the synch is very good, the story works well in itself and with the lyrics, and the degrade can be seen as a nice effect.
Stats: #clips: 58. avg length: 4.22 sec. total time: 10 hours.
Eventually, I tracked down the tribute record and, having picked up DVD source of the animation by accident while I was in China in 2006, I remastered the video to the version currently on local in October of 2009. As can be seen by comparison with the indirect version, there is a huge improvement in detail and general fidelity in both the video and audio components. There are some more notes on the video offsite here.
