- Radiohead Planet Telex
One of my favorite bands/groups has always been Radiohead.. and for the longest time I've been searching for an AMV project to use one of their songs. Eventually I ended up coming back to my favorite album of theirs "The Bends".
I've also been searching for a song to do an AMV project with Serial Experiments Lain. So naturally.. when I heard this song I thought it was appropriate combination.
Anyhow.. I started this project about 3 months ago.. and have been working on it on and off since.
For me, this song tells the story of a voice in your head, which constantly reminds you that no matter what you do, it isn't going to work. "You can force it, but it will not come", "Everything is broken". Orignally this song was called "Planet Xerox" but was later named "Planet Telex" for obvious reasons.
Lain lives mutlple lives.. one where she exists.. one where doesn't exist.. and a level in between where she's all of life in a sense.. or in this case the "wired". Regardless, she has no sense of reality.. is she real? is her life real? is her world real? ..and in all of this she starts to collapse in the confusion. The central theme/idea for this video was about Lain.. not having any identity and in a sense she's becomes broken and everything around is broken as well.. she can't seperate the voice in her head from the world around her. It all blends into a daze.
The intention of this video was to give Lain more of a voice. I'm not sure if this came through well or not. The message in this video isn't real obvious.. it doesn't scream the message into you head.. I hope at least some of you got it. =)
If my VCC will play nice, I will drop it to tape and send it off for the Otakon contest entry this weekend.
I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the downloads yet.. currently.. I'm thinking if I make it into the contest, I will hold off on the downloads until after Otakon, otherwise if I don't make it into the contest then I will make it available for download before Otakon 2002.

Well it's dropped to tape.. and will be sent off for the Otakon contest this weekend. Wish me luck getting into the contest.. O.O I hope I make the cut.. o.O

The tape is off.. *crosses fingers and toes* I hope I make it into the Otakon contest.

I didn't make it into the Otakon 2002 contest. That sucks, but such is life. I think I might enter it into AWA 8 Pro contest.. and well if I don't make it into that... well I then I give up. =/
I'll prolly won't give up.. I usually don't take no for answer when I know I don't need too.. but I'm kinda of bummed out today. =( Oh well..
2002-07-30 -- [UPDATE]
Okay I'm going to enter this into the AWA 8 Pro contest.. and that's it. No more contest entry for this video. After the AWA 8 Pro final-cut.. if I don't make it into the finals of that contest.. it will be released for download. I finally made what I consider a good MPEG 2 - MPG with TMPGEnc (thanks Quu for recommending Morgam-M). So all my vids will evetually be available in this format.
2002-09-11 -- [UPDATE]
As promised, if I didn't make it into the final rounds of the next contest I entered I would finally make this video publically available. Welll, I didn't make it into the final rounds of the AWA 8 Pro contest.. so as promised, it's now available for download. Right now it's only available in .asf and a MPEG1 version will be available for download in the future.
There was a problem with the server. Unfortunately it's a shared server, and someone elses site helped cause the server to be compromised. Since the site is offiline.. and it's not being used very much.. (at the moment) as it was designed to be.. I plan to take this "outage" time to make some fixes and major "core-coding" upgrades to the site that I have been meaning to for a while now.
The AMVs will go back up soon, just after I finish the site conversions. I will keep you up-to-date. Thanks for your patience.
A couple days ago, I added local-server a "dangling-carrot" link. Now you have more then one link to get the video.
