I originally wanted to do a parody video, but when it didn't work I went back to an initial idea about setting the anime to the main Dances With Wolves theme.
I listened to the song looped about 10 times and noted where bits from the film worked, and then realised that the structure of the song fitted the structure of the film (Quiet start, loud, quiet, loud, quiet end).
The video took about 2 days to make, and then another few hours of fine tuning. The speed was mainly due to the film being only 2 hours (not a whole anime series), and the fact that I knew it really well. However switching to the Morgan Multimedia MJPEG codec for playback meant I didn't have to wait 3 seconds (the initialisation of the hardware codec) every time I wanted to edit a video sequence, and when you need to do this a thousand times everything flows a lot faster!
