First video. Made with two VCRs (one with insert-editing) and no concept of timing. I was getting over a breakup, but tried to be light about it. I think it's a good idea, but an awful video. It took a few weeks to "write" the whole thing, but only about two hours to actually create it. I was dumb and didn't know what flying erase heads were back then! I thought that if I hit stop, I'd get that awful wavy line running up the picture. So, we figured out all of the clips, practiced exactly WHEN to hit the Pause button, put the tapes in the right spot (and wrote down how far to FF or Rewind) and then I hit record and hurriedly raced to complete the video before the "Pause" feature timed out. It was madness. I screwed up many times, of course. On the last try I screwed up right at the end. I forgot a clip. I backed up and tried putting the clip at the end, without starting over. Then I finished the video and rewound to see how bad it was. It was then that I did two things: Felt extremely stupid, and fell in love with Flying Erase Heads.
The video was made for Otakon 1995. I'd seen my first AMV's at Otakon 1994 (Bobby "C-Ko" Beaver's "Everything She Does Is Magic"/Kiki's Delivery Service) and just fell in love with the medium. I heard from the staff at the time that it had done quite well with the voting. The staff guy I talked to said it made 3rd place, but as no records seem to exist I'm not sure.
