What can I really say about this video?
I'd really wanted to make a completely ridiculous AMV for a while, and when I heard that Puni Puni Poemi was being released in the US, I knew that it was time. I spent a really long time searching for a song that would capture the mood of this anime correctly, and after a few days of searching, my fiancÚ brought Superfreak to my attention. After hearing the 1st sentence of the song I was convinced. This was going to be the most ridiculous video that I could imagine making.
After I got into selecting clips I realized 2 extremely large obstacles.
1) PPP is only about an hour long (with credits).
2) About 40% of the scenes were unusable if I ever wanted to submit this to a con due to their ecchi-ness :P
Luckily despite those two factors there was still a lot of good footage, but I decided that I was going to have to be a lot more creative if I wanted to have enough footage for this thing.
My original concept was for the majority of the video to be an all out lyrics syncing fest. For the most part I pulled that off, but there were a few parts that there just wasn't anything available to use. That is when I decided it was time for me to learn the art of rotoscoping. I not knowing a thing about Photoshop made rotoscoping in a few characters a daunting task to say the least, but after ALOT of messing around I finally got a fairly acceptable result. Pretty happy overall with the way those scenes turned out.
I also became determined to get my lip syncing as accurate as I could when it was present. There were a lot of parts in this video where the opposite was also true, (i.e. there was characters talking that wouldn't have made sense if they had been talking) and I did my best to superimpose little closed mouths over them to keep them quiet. ^_^
But anyway, there are a lot of just ridiculous scenes, and if you're not into campy tongue in cheek humor, then this is probably isn't going to be one of your favorites :P. I personally think it's hilarious, but I don't really expect too many other people to appreciate the type of humor I used in it.
As for software I used:
Adobe Premiere 6.0
Adobe Photoshop 7
And a few other common plugins, etc.
In total this video was made using 364 different pieces of source material, and contains around 700 or so individual cuts.
The song itself was edited down for time. (Again due to lack of useable clips) Hard core Rick James fans might notice missing parts, but I doubt anyone else will.
I spent about 120 hours into making this video over the course of a SOLID month.
She's a very kinky girl
The kind you don't take home to mother
She will never let your spirits down
Once you get her off the street, ow girl
She likes the boys in the band
She says that I'm her all-time favorite
When I make my move to her room it's the right time
She's never hard to please
That girl is pretty wild now
The girl's a super freak
The kind of girl you read about
In new-wave magazine
That girl is pretty kinky
The girl's a super freak
I really love to taste her
Every time we meet
She's all right, she's all right
That girl's all right with me, yeah
She's a super freak, super freak
She's super-freaky, yow
Super freak, super freak
She's a very special girl
The kind of girl you want to know
>From her head down to her toenails
Down to her feet, yeah
And she'll wait for me at backstage with her girlfriends
In a limousine
Going back in Chinatown
Three's not a crowd to her, she says
"Room 714, I'll be waiting"
When I get there she's got incense, wine and candles
It's such a freaky scene
Super freak, super freak
That girl's a super freak
