UPDATE: RNITTBS WINS BEST COMEDY AT AUSA2003!!!
Third Lens Open Productions presents its fourth, most ambitious AMV to date, Right Now It's Tricky To Be Shameless.
I'm really not sure why I came up with this video. I think I was either at the mall, walking around Best Buy, or walking towards my car, when I thought "...right now... it's tricky... to be shameless. Hey, wait a minute.."
See, on LiveJournal, Ashyukun have this tendency to start their subjects with either "It's tricky to..." or "Right now,..." To add to this, there have been about 3 Shameless ______ Videos in addition to AbsoluteDestiny's pivotal "Shameless Rock Video."
So, I took the phrases "Right now" "It's tricky" and "Shameless" to be cliches. And, one day, they all clicked. Once I had the title, I needed to think of a video concept. Then, it hit me: Lain, as an AMV creator. And she'd try to be cliched, and fail, and become original, and, well... you'll see what happens.
Initially, after ripping the source footage, video progress was stagnant. Thanks to cracks of the whip from dji and VicBond, both of whom wanted more entries in AUSA, I decided to move forward with the video.
Technical Stuff: Playing with text bubbles was interesting, as was manually erasing screens in Photoshop to put the screencaps under. Taking all of the website and Premiere screens was a pain, but looks good in the end. Aside from that, lots and lots of speed adjustments. It took me longer than I'd care to admit to figure out how to do transitions in Premiere Pro (as I was too proud to consult the manual), but once I figured it out, it was smooth sailing.
Total Editing Time: 20-30 hours over 2-3 weeks.
Ripping Method: Smartripper --> DVD2AVI --> AVISynth --> Virtualdub --> HuffYUV clips
Editing: Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop 7
Encoding: TMPGEnc using AD's templates, tweaked slightly
AD for telling me where he got the speech bubbles, though his (in IWIWAL) look way better than mine.
Ashyukun did the opening title. I just had no idea what to do, tossed it to him, and he came through in a big way. My next vid is gonna be a doozy, though, so I do plan on learning After Effects soon so I don't have to distract him from giving afros to random anime characters =)
dji for telling me to drop and give him 30 frames =)
VicBond007 for telling me what capturing software he used for the screencaps. His "Make It Better" DDR2 segment was my inspiration for having those sequences.
My friends, and my roommate in particular, for putting up with having to hear "Weapon of Choice" over and over and over again during the course of my editing and for having to watch countless betas. I still hear groans of pain when "Weapon of Choice" starts playing on my electronica mixcd.
Doki, AD, and Bogo: They did it better than I ever could with their three videos.
Stay tuned for more great things from TLO, including *gasp* a Project! In the meantime, sit back, relax, and enjoy.
