This is the first AMV that I spent some real time on. This one took me about a week and a half. It's still not contest material, but I was alot more consciencious about what I did in this AMV. I downloaded a few other people's Crest of the Stars AMV's to see what has been done, and they all were great. I'm hoping that people who enjoyed this series as much as I did will enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it. This isn't the final version, but work is intruding on my free time, so I'll have to leave it as is until I can get back to it. There are a couple of timing issues as well as other small things I'd like to tweak. I welcome any suggestions you might have!
*****edit****** Back from vacation, and I've watched this video a few times through to try and get back into the groove of creating an AMV. I went and did "Same Old Macross" just to have some shameless fun because I intend to do some serious work to this AMV. I re-read the ops for this edit, and decided The whole first half and probably last few seconds will need to be completely changed to make the video more enjoyable. We'll see how it turns out, I'll be uploading the finished version to the carrot when it's completed . . . . . . *****end edit*****
I tried my hand at lip-synching again, even though I swore that off because it is way too time consuming, and I don't have much time to be consumed with AMV creation. Needless to say it didn't work out this time, either, though you will probably notice the places left in that was trying accomplish this elusive feat. Well, it's elusive with MY editor, anyway. When I get the chance to polish this up a bit, I'll go back and use still frames where I can to do the lip-synch. I messed with the color hues in a few places, as well as freezing the picture in a few spots (the third frozen capture got lost in an overlay transition, but it wasn't an essential part of the video anyway).
The music is from another anime (Lacus' song from Gundam Seed), but I think it fit this video just fine. It is in Japanese, and I toyed with the idea of finding a translation and adding subtitles, but I figured subtitles aren't necessary in a music video. The song is nice, and the text would have distracted from the footage, so I left that out. Overall I am pleased with this video, although watching it in its entirety shows me all the areas I'd like to change because my editor can't do what I wanted it to (specifically a blended overlay of more than two clips; my editor won't even let me fully overlay ONE clip ontop of another, only a partial clip. That's something I'll have to get creative on when I crack this open again). The scene this is most evident in is When Lafil and Jinto are strapping into their shuttle, I have a clip of the two of them sitting and drinking water flashing in the middle of that sequence. It's supposed to be just faintly visible, but it didn't quite make it. I think it's acceptable for now, but it's one of the things I'll fix later on. Seeing as my software was free, I guess I can't complain.
The quality on this low-res version is so-so. The interlace is quite obvious when you view it full-screen (something else I need to work on). I want to do another Macross video next time. Everyone keeps harping on the quality of "Macross Fan", and I'm like "that video is three months old, I deleted all that footage from my computer already!" But "Under the Stars" was a bit of a challenge, and added that much more experience under my belt, so I'm hoping whatever my next project is, it will turn out even better than this one did. Hope you enjoy the video!
