- Premiered: 2011-09-10
- Jimmy Eat World Hear You Me
This is the video I made during the NDK 2011 Iron Chef competition versus Kitsuner (the champion from last year).
I was asked if I wanted to participate a while back but it wasn't official until a few weeks before the competition, while I was on vacation. This made it very difficult to do any real preparation since I would only have 2 weeks between the end of my vacation and when I would be leaving for Colorado.
This was a very difficult video. I cut the song before going to the con and had to cut out a good 30 seconds more during the competition. I had very little time to go back and fix timing problems as I was pretty much looking for and laying down clips for the whole 2 hours. I wish I had an extra 30min to really fine tune everything. Because I didn't have any more time, the video feels really sloppy to me. Despite that, the judges felt that it was the better video and voted me the winner. Kitsuner had an excellent video though. He used the secret source A LOT better then I did. I feel like he should've won but the judges had their reasons.
The theme was "Only the good die young". The theme really hit close to home for me. While trying to prep I thought of my dad, whom passed away several years ago. His passing has been hard for me so the theme wasn't something I really felt excited about. During the competition while editing, it hit me a little as well. That made editing a little more difficult overall -_- Other then that, I enjoyed myself. I think Kit and I put on a good show with our videos and answering questions afterwards.
The sources we could use were:
Excel Saga ep 1-5
Yu Yu Hakusho ep 1 - 5
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Cowboy Bebop ep 22-26
Full Metal Alchemist ep 1 - 5
and then the secret source was:
All Dogs go to Heaven
Great secret source if you ask me... however, it didn't work out that well with the idea i was going for so I didn't use it as much as I would've liked.
Anyway, I hope people enjoyed it. It's not something one would expect to see at an IC but it's what I was able to do given the short notice and preparation.
