I think that Gainax might have got their Angels mixed up...!
PSG is an anime that's given me a lot of pleasure over the last three months. It has shown a diverse range of subjects, blazing flair and a surprising amount of emotional awareness, all of which lift the show up to be much more than the 'send-up of Western cartoons' that it was perhaps over-simplistically billed as. The last episode is set to broadcast on the day at I am writing now (Christmas Eve), and it's an early Christmas present. I am genuinely excited and bouncing with anticipation for the resolution, and with it stirring such a response in me both Gainax and Crunchyroll can give themselves a pat on the back for a job well done. Truth be told, with talk of "Powepuff Girls" seen through the prism of "Dead Leaves" PSG always sounded zany and the hype bug bit me months before it even began airing, but my reaction isn't just blind fanboyism - my expectations have been met, and exceeded.
With the final episode (of Season One, here's hoping) appearing on Crunchyroll in just a few hours I had to find an outlet for my glee, and so have put together this further tribute to a definite contender for Anime Of The Year. PSG has played me as masterfully as Shinji and Asuka danced rings around Israfel, and whether the last episode is a catastrophic coup-de-merde or an unparalleled tour-de-force, it won't fail to be a memorable occasion.
Thanks for everything, Gainax!
