  An absolute AU, starts from Ranka Lee's POV; they were childhood friends and she always had a crush on him. But Sheryl Nome – an idol who just arrived on Macross Frontier – expresses feelings for him. He decides to date her. Ranka is upset by this and can no longer sing. He tries to understand what's happening betwene them, so he goes to see her; but their enemy the Vajra is hanging around her. When she stands in the way of him killing it, he titles her an enemy and aims at her too. She leaves Frontier with another after bidding him farewell. From Saotome Alto's POV; later, he is sitting outside of his room, where Sheryl lays inside; thinking about all the training he went through to be the perfect soldier for Ranka, to protect her. He begs Sheryl not to leave him too where they become lovers then. Ranka, who thought to give him one more chance to understand her feelings, sees this from outside and leaves a message on his phone before disappearing. He sees it later and panics because she saw him having sex with the other. The next day, Klan Klang dares to ask the question bugging everyone: "do you love Ranka?" He doesn't answer nor know what to do. He sees the painting of Ranka that her best friend Nanase Matsuura made. Something stabs at his heart. He wonders why. He contemplates his choices so far in search of an answer. Afterward, the soldiers prepare for battle. He is ready to carry out his choice to kill Ranka despite the ache it brings him. Ranka's form appears during the battle, overpowering Sheryl, who is upset as Alto struggles to live let alone carry out his mission. He acknowledges that there is no option left and moves to kill her. Lost in anguish, he fails to see someone aim at him, and a shot fires through his ship, killing him. As he dies, he remembers his time with Ranka: the friendship they shared, the love and happiness they shared, and their kiss. Finally, he understands the ache in his heart. As he fades into death, the whisper of "I never stopped loving you; I still do," echoes to Ranka through the fold quartz earring he wears. As it all ends, Sheryl is in anguish. From Ranka Lee's POV; meanwhile, she apologizes for letting him die, and she fades into the darkness to join him, leaving behind Sheryl. OWARI.
  
  I made this to test my skills at working with thick plotlines in AMVs. I wanted to also see if I could truly kill a main character or two in my videos. I rarely do unhappy endings. Now that both movies are out, I might remake this eventually. Despite what you might think, I do love Alto; rather, I would've preferred him not to die, although I hate that he chose Sheryl, I don't hate his character. I am a 100% AR supporter. I only included Sheryl because it made the plot more interesting to work with. Now, I don't hate her but I don't like her. Deal with that please?
