"How Ritsuka Really Feels" pretty much flew under the radar. It didn't become a finalist in either con I submitted it to, but that's alright. You can't win them all.
I love yaoi. Throwing it out there. It was evident somewhat in "Today", but I wanted to make an AMV dedicated exclusively to yaoi. So, the hunt for fitting songs began. And it just so happened my math teacher continually played the Mamma Mia! soundtrack. Slowly, but steadily, I became addicted to Honey, Honey and the way she sings it spoke to me. I equated it to being head-over-heels in love, but being slightly unable to show it.
Now I needed an anime that fitted the concept I'd imagined. Of course, Loveless popped right out to me - Ritsuka is very obviously in love with Soubi, but he finds himself constantly unable to show it, admit it, or believe Soubi's advances. Ritsuka is very unsure of himself, and the world around him, and it was a perfect match.
Putting the video together was, on one hand, a joy, and the other, a challenge. I loved manipulating all the clips to fit the mood, but finding clips of happy Rituksa, especially happy Ritsuka with Soubi, was sometimes very frustrating. I'd find just the right thing, but something or another would be in the clip that made me not use it.
The intro turned out to be one of my favorite parts. I wanted that feeling of tension between the two main characters, and then something boils over. Ritsuka runs away, and the viewer thinks it's going to be a breakup video. As it turns out, Ritsuka just doesn't know how to express himself - a problem many people can relate to.
I hope everyone can enjoy this AMV as much as I do. So sit back, relax, make some popcorn, and immerse yourself in a love story that's as bumpy as the road.
