I made this video with the idea of exploring all the complex relationships that Toradora contained. Granted, I pretty much just followed the general story of the show, but I also tried to develop the characters and show the growth they each had to go through.
I also think Toradora is just full of "contradictions" hence the song. Ryuuji's face strikes fear into all who look upon him, unbeknown to them he has a cleaning OCD under his scary exterior. Taiga sounds hostile almost all the time, but she simply wants her crush to understand her feelings. Minorin is the ideal space cadet, but sometimes lets profound feelings slip. Ami acts like a typically model on the outside, however, her true personality is secretly mocking, manipulating, and just toying with everyone around her. Pretty much every character has a mask to cover their real self.
I think Eternal says it best:
"We weren't written into the world by some sort of screen writer, so one could even say that it's human nature to be different, to contradict the world's preconceived expectations of you. It's like saying the opposite of what you feel, either because you can or because you have to. It's kinda like doing your best to show people that you're not who they think you are.
Kinda like pouring salt on vanilla."
It's so hard to say this to you,
Once again my love fell through.
How could I do this to you?
The last time I promised you,
And you say...
Well there's so much that I see when you are not around me,
So many words that you say are contradictions,
And how can you say you love me when you don't even seek to find me?
And I just want to set you free from these addictions.
You cry as I tell you,
When did I?
Why did I?
How could I?
I sigh as I tell you all the things I used to do
And you say...
Well there's so much I didn't see when you were not around me,
And so many words that you said were contradictions,
And how could you have said you loved me,
When there were all those things I couldn't see?
Well I knew there was something up with you.
Something not right...
Is there anything I don't see when you are not around me?
Are any words that you say contradictions?
And do you still love me now?
Well I don't understand how.
Can you forgive me somehow of these convictions?
And you forgive me endlessly,
But I won't pretend to understand all of this,
And you love me unconditionally,
But I know I'll learn from this,
I know I'll learn from this.
**Warning: This video has major spoilers for Toradora! I would not advise watching it unless you've fully seen the show.
