This is a little video I've been working on for the past year. It has a different editing technique than any other video I've seen so far, and it turned out well.
In short, this is a character profile of Nami from One Piece. It shows her different moods (and different outfits). I've placed her in a strange new environment with extensive rotoscoping. The backgrounds come mostly from the paintings and sculptures of an artist called Murakami. His works are very dreamy and cute, and sometimes a little disturbing. There is a definite theme of mushrooms and psychedelica in the video. At the begining, Nami travels down a "rabbit hole" into the land of mushrooms and pandas. Sometimes she marvels at the wonders around her, sometimes she panics and has a bad trip. Nami is a fun, happy character who enjoys the simple things in life, so here she plays around a lot with the strange creatures she encounters.
The purpose of creating this video was originally to see how far I could push After Effects and what kinds of effects and compositions I create with it. I've done this before, but this is the first completed video with this level of creative effort on my part. Every scene was rotoscoped in photoshop. Most of the Nami pics come from still frames I took from the show, while osme of the later images are from the One Piece Color Walk art books, or even fanart online. The backgrounds were either found or created in After Effects and Photoshop. There are quite a few images and sequences that didn't make the final edit, and I'm happy with the mix I've created here.
Hope you enjoy it!
