Months (of procrastinating) in the making, I've finally released another video. This puts me at a total of four, and I think I'm done with my basic apprenticeship now.
This one started out as a bright idea spawned by two intersecting incidents. One was the acquisition of the remastered Akira on DVD. The other was a comment by a new coworker along the lines of, "Hey, why don't you make a Metallica video?" (As has been pointed out, my first video is not technically a Metallica video.) And so UnHuman was born.
My original intent was to push my own personal envelope. I believe I've accomplished this, but I don't think I've broken anything resembling "new ground" in the AMV scene itself. Not hardly. I have deliberately stepped away from linear temporal thinking, at least. My previous efforts tend to follow the source material's timeline quite rigidly, which tends to trap a creator into making just another "synopsis of the story" video.
There's one sequence fairly early on that's the center of my experimentation this time out. You'll know it when you see it. That's the bit I'm really curious to have feedback on from my fellows and betters in the community. The rest is pretty much boilerplate "cool footage and stuff" with a few nice bits of serendipity along the way.
All in all, I'm happy with this video. It's not perfect, and it's not intensely compelling, but it does represent progress in my efforts towards better AMV creation. Share and enjoy, friends.
