Just like many of those people who made 5cm Per Second videos were, I was very excited when Makoto Shinkai's latest creation was announced probably almost a year and half ago now. His visual creativity and heart achingly true-to-the-soul narratives have always rated highly for me, and this was no exception. The movie deals with an all too familiar theme that Makoto Shinkai has become very proficient in now; lost and distance.

    But there's also hope.

And that's what I tried to get across here. For the better part of the video, all I've really done is retell the story in a quick three and half minutes, but a side theme I went with was remembrance and how our memories are more often than not what propels us to make the decisions we make in life. It's probably not so apparent without having have seen the original movie first, however I think for the most part, this video is at least a nice piece about reminiscing.

This is as far as I can remember the first time I've ever used an R2 source and I think with the brilliantly colourful artwork in this movie, it is only fitting that I try to get the best possible encode out of it. I've been exasperated by trying to preserve as much quality as possible through the magic of x264 but it wasn't until after I specifically told myself that it was never going to look as good as the lossless version did I finally give up and be satisfied with what I have available here. Hopefully you'll think it's good :P

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this... I believe it's my best drama video to date. I really wanted to release one of the earliest, if not the first 5cm Per Second videos here in the org, but in the end, I'm very happy that I waited...
