FINALLY after a year this mep is done! The mep is a tribute to a japanese rock band named Dir en grey. I like to thank everyone who helped making this mep alive. I know it was hard to have a lot of people participate but we finally got this mep done! The mep is based on the bands concept which is spreading the feeling of pain, lost, despair, society, mass media, and sexual obsessions. The project started as a interest gauage in the forms and eventually I got some what of a good number to start the mep. As time grew people started to drop and because of low interest level some people (including me) had to take more then 2 segments but I still like to thank people who gave it a shot :). What inspired me to make this mep is the band itself. Their music is very fresh and entertaining and I just have to expose such great talents. Making the mix to this mep was a very hard task mainly because style changing almost every album but the general idea was mixing about 3 or more songs of each of there album but due to the fact that I was short on numbers for the mep I had to cut the segments down. The reason why I titled this mep "hirogaru yami no naka" is because I believe it delivers the right message of the mep. "hirogaru yami no naka" means "Within The Spreading Darkness" if anyone is wondering :). Well I can't so too much about this mep but it did take a good deal of time and effort from everyone who contribute. Here is a little info about the band.

    Band Info
Dir en grey is a Japanese band formed in 1997 maintaining the steady lineup of Kyo (vocals), Kaoru (guitar), Die (guitar), Toshiya (bass) and Shinya (drums). As of 2007, it has released six full-length records and is among the handful of Japanese bands to have enjoyed notable success in Europe and North America. According to guitarist Kaoru, the name "Dir en grey" was chosen because it "sounded right," and is comprised of words from several languages, so that people would not be able to attach a specific meaning to it other than that the band's name itself. Dir en grey's format has been subject to change throughout their career, initially being a rather experimental form of hard rock. Some tracks of their debut album Gauze also demonstrated a distinct pop appeal, which was largely dropped in favor of a more progressive sound on the following albums, Macabre and Kisou. While up to that point some songs had already been more fast-paced, raw and aggressive than others, the band's music took a decisive turn with the release of the EP Six Ugly, from then on sporting more metal influences in general. Dir en grey's style has since been gravitating towards riffs and song structures more along the lines of contemporary North American fusion genres, such as nu metal and metalcore. All lyrics are written by vocalist Kyo and deal with subjects such as society, mass media as well as sexual obsessions and love, usually with negative implications. The vocabulary varies from subtle to explicit and several songs rely heavily on double entendres and other wordplay, often involving the multiple meanings of a kanji character.

    Segment info
Intro: I feel this moving dark stuff is exactly what I was looking for as the intro because I feel it relys a lot to the title of the mep. My Original plan was to add the editors name to the opening segment but it was to many names and it seem boring so I added the band members name.

    Seg 1 [00:31 - 01:17] - Alastor
The reason why I chosed death note is because this segments lyrics completely syncs with the anime. We all know that Kira is a masochist :). I also have the idea of having the moving darkness in the apple which kira is holding and having him take a bite, showing him eating the darkness!

    Seg 3 [01:59 - 02:47] - dragonsong
Went with Chrono Crusade for this section, just felt that a comparison of Chrono vs. Joshua went very well with the feel visually. Both are dark characters and both are motivated by similar things, but they're very different at the end of the day.

    Seg 4: FILTH [02:48 - 03:26] - -Good for Nothing-
I don't really know what to say in this particular situation except for that my track has been finished last year in june so it's quite obvious that my standard is much higher than that by now. However, I got some of my first particle illusion/rotoscoping experiences from that so I guess it was quite entertaining...
Anyway, I'm somewhat sceptic about the mep as I didn't really like the outcome from the look of the betas but good luck nonetheless guys.

    Seg 5 [03:27 - 04:11] - Alastor
I really love this segment any from my other ones because I feel this song flowed really well with the anime. Kamui always had problems when growing up and that is what the song is about!

    Seg 6 [04:12 - 04:40] - Aneino Kaijin
When I saw the title, the first think I thought of was One Piece, with the crew being, essentially, one of the more screwed up families ever created. But when I read the lyrics, the Baron, with his crazed, screwed-up attempts to “stay with” his own screwed up family – and the twisted way he wielded that power - made the mix a natural.

    Seg 8 [05:09 - 05:54] - Aneino Kaijin
To be honest, I’ve just really wanted to do a video to this anime for a long time and once I heard this song, I could see most of it in my mind. The lyrics gave me a bit of a turn and I almost changed the idea, but in the end I stuck with it and I’m glad I did.

    Seg 9 [05:55 - 06:39] - Flame-X
Why I picked it? Obscure and one other segment were the only ones left. It's not like i wanted obscure, in fact i hate that song. It gave me a freakin headache for 3 days. I had no idea what the other song was but i hated more than obscure for sure. :)
The dark mood and atmosphere made me think of higurashi... So i thought, "lets give it a try." Mostly using the horror scenes in higurashi, im quite surprised how well it fits. while enhancing it with effects, it became truly something. This segment shows the true horror of the anime making the song bleed to death. :)

    Seg 10: Kasumi [06:40 - 07:26] - Flame-X
So a few months pass by after completing my obscure segment then someone decided drop from the project. His/her part was Kasumi. So I thought, "maybe I should give it a try.." At first, I was clueless in how I'm gonna edit it but after I chose the right anime, it was all good. Unlike the previous segment I did, this has no effects except for different transitions. The song is still heavy but much more melodic and slow paced(my type of song). I mainly focused on the scenes described by the lyrics since Fafner Right of Left is a depressing anime. A lot of the scenes deals with pain and suffering. I'm glad with the results and I hope u enjoy!

    Seg 11 [07:27 - 08:08] - Aneino Kaijin
When I first read the lyrics to this section, a couple things ran through my mind, but the big one was the feeling of unwanted memories, and more, of not being able to fully understand what you were seeing in those memories until the time had passed. I pared down several ideas to the one that seemed to fit that idea the best – Yami no Matsuei’s Hisoka, who’s trying to use the present to run from the past.

    Seg 12 [08:09 - 08:47] - Bauzi
I wanted to make a short view of Brandonīs death, when he is shot by his best friend Harry. Most of the time it is focused on his fall, but youīll see a short view on his relationship with Mary and how it is disturbed by violence and crime (symbolized by the bullet rain). There is also Brandon as Gungrave in it and how he tries to take revenge. The last scene should symbolize how Brandon sees his own life before he is finally dead and the white cloth that is the sign of freedom for Brandon and Harry, who both tried to claim it (not the cloth... the freedom of course!).
If this doesnīt make sense to you... Just watch the anime and you wonīt regrete it. Itīs one of the deepest and best anime I know.

    Seg 13 [08:48 - 09:37] - Alastor
This segment I completely sync the lyrics to the anime because the anime fit the song and the theme of the song very good. Thats why I added scenes from there music video to the segment!

    Seg 18 [12:39 - 13:32] - Mac
When i first heard this part i just thougt something like:
"Yeah.......... nice", then the music started to get a bit more aggressive
and then it was like what the f**k and i felt like lets kill everyone who is wearing purple
and what a surprise there is a episode for my problem in Night Head Genesis ^^
