Hello, and welcome if you are reading this.
Careless Cobra is my first ever AMV. It came to my mind when I was driving from school in September 2001 one day. The sun setting, giving the sky a reddish/orange tint. I turned on the radio and heard the song "Careless Whisper" playing. My mind started to drift as I remembered the original George Michael music video from way back, which also had a sunset theme. My mind then wandered to the opening sequence of the film Space Adventure Cobra, in which some of the ocean scenes had a similar tint. (Yes my mind wandered an awful lot during this period, but in an Atlanta evening traffic jam, you gots nothing but time. ^_^)
Then the video started forming in my head a bit more. The song (to me at least) is about lost love and betrayal, and regrets, much like the Cobra movie. He meets three of the most beautiful women he's ever seen, and loses them in horrible ways, and some betrayal does take place in the film, and so the script and direction of the vid started to take a good form, and I had about 80% mapped out by the time I got home. Didn't have the training for editing yet, though, until spring of this year. Kept refining my idea in the meantime.
S.A. Cobra is directed by my all-time favorite animator Osamu Dezaki. I still feel he is the most American director in the anime industry, in that most of his works do not come off looking like a manga to me. I'd ideally like to do AMVs from some of his other works, which led me to my next project.
Addenum: I've had people ask me why I had fighting in the video when the song is about dancing. Well, basically, in many cultures, fighting is considered a form of dance like any other, so I juxtaposed the two to move the AMV's story along a bit. Hope that clears things up a bit.
