- Nine Inch Nails Into The Void
This is my forth video, and I feel, best to date. Its a story and character profile about Kenshin, using Nine Inch Nails' "Into The Void". I got really lucky with this idea, as the anime and song match each other perfectly, right down to the vocals. The chorus of this song is "tried to save myself but myself keeps slipping away" and I don't need to tell any of you Kenshin fans that those lyrics fit him to a T. This is my most ambitious video to date and my first attempt at telling an actual concrete story. My other videos (with the exception of Die Motherfuckers) have had some sort of metaphorical meaning or symbolism to give them some extra plot weight but nothing really concrete. I went out of my way to tell a story and I hope you enjoy it.
The video in a nutshell is Kenshin's flashback/hallucination of his entire life. The video starts out with Kenshin climbing the mountain towards the very end of Samurai X: Betrayal. During his fight with one of the ninjas, he is hit by a poisonous dart and collapses into a hallucination, which is the bulk of the video. The dream-like state starts at 0:40 and ends at 4:19. At 4:19 Kenshin wakes up, pulls the dart out of himself, and continues his journey up the mountain. I don't want to spoil the ending, but those who have seen the OAV's will understand the plot a little better. When Kenshin wakes up from the dream at 4:19, the climax of the song begins. This is signaled by the lack of the black borders and the increased brightness. I wanted a definite contrast between the dream state and the reality and I think it works. I hope you enjoy it, because I had a blast making it.
There are also a ton of subtle effects I used. If you don't know they're there, then you can't enjoy them! :P
Little Video Things:
0:20 - 0:40 is supposed to represent Kenshin in the present time, climbing the mountain. Once he gets hit with the poisonous dart he sinks into his delusion/hallucination/dream state, whatever you wanna call it.
0:44 - 0:55 The little scene flashes here (not the ones that were shown previously, the ones that are flashing on top) are in chronological order. Just helps tell the story a little better.
1:08 - 1:24 This is all in chronological order too. Its supposed to represent WHY Kenshin is the way he is. After 1:24 the video focuses on Kenshin's semi adult life and not his awful childhood.
1:24 - 1:40 All this stuff is in chronological order as well.
More to come soon... :)
