#AMV IRC Chatroom Rules
Welcome to #AMV on SynIRC Please read through these rules carefully before participating in this chat room and remember to play nice :) Each violation contains a progression of penalties. They are ordered in such a way as that number 1 will be the reprisal for the first offense in that category, number 2 will be the next step up should you become a repeat offender, etc. Please note that depending on the severity of the action, as determined by the administrative staff, the progression of penalties may be completely bypassed where the result is immediate, permanent suspension from this chat room. This chat room will normally be moderated by several 'ops' (moderators) who have an @ symbol next to their name. The ops in the chat room are regularly not administrators for the animemusicvideos.org website so do not approach them with any questions relating to the website. Please redirect any website enquiries to admin@animemusicvideos.org Penalty Levels: 1. Warning - An operator will issue a warning, either in the channel or through a PM. 2. Temporary Ban - You will be banned from entering #AMV for a certain amount of time, depending on your recent history of punishments and the severity of the broken rule. Typical times for a temporary ban are 24 hours, one week, two weeks, and one month. The specific length of a ban will be communicated to the user via a PM or through the forum. Ban evasion will be punished. 3. Permanent Ban - You will be permanently banned from entering #AMV. Note also that should one person consistently collect warnings for numerous offenses yet not progress beyond the warning stage in any one of them, moderators reserve the right to determine an appropriate penalty for the number and severity of warnings. This should not be a game to see how many warnings you can collect without being punished. Further Note that your actions in this chat room may affect your privileges on animemusicvideos.org and any indiscretions here may have repercussions there, Likewise any suspensions or bans on the forum may have a similar effect on your chat room penalty status. Violations: 1. Torrents, File-sharing, and Illegalities Links to torrents or sites hosting torrents are prohibited in the channel. Case-by-case exceptions for Creative Commons or open source content may be made by consulting an operator through PM before linking. Fserves will be permitted, but only for the distribution of AMV's. All other file types are strictly forbidden in #amv fserves. Users may not link or ask where to obtain warez, cracks, serials, porn, fasubs/scanlations, pirated video, software, or music, etc. Streaming video and music links on youtube are fine, as long as full episodes/movies/albums are not linked unless the linked stream has been posted by the legal rights-holders. Users should also refrain from the discussion of committing activities that are clearly illegal. Now, we're not here to police you, and we're not going to ban people for talking about criminal activities in a clearly facetious manner, but we'd appreciate if you'd take that sort of thing to PM where it will not affect other users. 2. Porn Direct links to porn are not permitted. Indirect links are permitted with an appropriate warning but only sparingly, please. Inappropriate images also should be labeled NSFW, but direct links to porn are STILL not allowed even if they are labeled so. 3. Scripts and Bots Scripts and bots are allowed, to a reasonable extent. If a bot or a script is abused or being spammed, however, the ops will ask the user to remove the bot or script from the channel. 4. Spamming Spamming consists of repeatedly entering the same message or flooding the channel with irrelevant text. Please don't do this. Please also avoid repeatedly linking your video and asking people for views/opinions. If you link once or twice and no one responds, they are probably not interested, so if you really want opinions and this happens, make a post in the Opinion Exchange forum. 5. Accounts No vulgar, obscene, or derogatory nicks, or impersonating another user. 6. Language and Flaming Obscene, derogatory, threatening, or hateful language is not allowed in the channel. This includes racial slurs and flaming. Flaming consists of harrassing or directing serious insults at another user, or being rude in a fashion that cannot be interpreted as joking and is not conducive to a mature conversation. This definition is somewhat up to the discretion of the ops, but generally boils down to 'Don't be an asshat.' 7. Instigation The goal of the channel is to create a place that many people can congregate to discuss a wide range of topics. And since this is the internet, some drama is to be expected. However, there is a certain level of drama that is unacceptable in the channel and should be taken to PM. If your personal life is taking over the channel, either move your discussion to PM or take a bit of time away from the channel to cool off. Provoking another user into breaking this rule is also not allowed. On the Privacy of IRC As a general note, remember that everyone in an IRC channel sees all the messages sent to that channel and generally has the ability to log the channel to disk; it is thus not a good idea to plan to overthrow your government in #AMV. |
