The VidID / VidLink / Embed tags

This forum is to announce newly created/released anime music videos.
Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

The VidID / VidLink / Embed tags

Postby dokidoki » Fri Jan 26, 2007 2:34 am

For those that might not be aware, when you see a lot of text describing a video like this:

The person posting it probably didn't type all of that out by hand. You don't have to either. When you post, there is a button called "vidid". You can click on it, then put in the video ID of the video after the first right bracket. If you find the profile page of the video, like this one:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... .php?v=215

The video id is the number after the equals sign. So to display all the information shown above about this video, you only have to type:

Code: Select all

[vidid]215[/vidid]

Re: The VidID tag

This tag can now be added to your own site if you have phpbb3 or are savvy enough to otherwise incorporate it in other systems based off the instructions below. Keep in mind that if the org is inaccessible for some reason, the information will not load and may slow the loading of the pages you include the vidid tag on. (This is rare though and you can undo creation of this bbcode in such an event.)

That said, here is how you can include this on a phpbb3 forum.

Log in as an admin and go to the admin control panel.
From there click on the posting tab. You should be on the page for making custom bbcodes.
Click "Add a new BBCode"

For BBCode usage put:

Code: Select all

[vidid]{NUMBER}[/vidid]

For HTML Replacement put:

Code: Select all

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/vidid.php?v={NUMBER}"></script><noscript><a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video/{NUMBER}">http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video/{NUMBER}</a></noscript>

For Help line put something that will help users understand how to use the bbcode when they hover their mouse over the button. We have:

Code: Select all

Show video information: [vidid]video id #[/vidid]

And finally check the box at the end to make it a visible tag and click submit.

Now you can use this bbcode tag like we do here at the org. To use this in other ways, adapt the code being used for HTML Replacement.

Re: The VidID tag

I added a new "vidlink" tag. This is for a simple link to a video, and is designed for creating more compact lists of videos, or for the occasional one-off reference in a conversation. It operates similar to "vidid" as shown in the first message. The link also has a tooltip to show who made it.

Example:

The tag can be added to your own site by following the instructions in the previous message and replacing the text with the following:

For BBCode usage put:

Code: Select all

[vidlink]{NUMBER}[/vidlink]

For HTML Replacement put:

Code: Select all

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/vidlink.php?v={NUMBER}"></script><noscript><a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video/{NUMBER}">http://www.animemusicvideos.org/video/{NUMBER}</a></noscript>

For Help line put:

Code: Select all

Show video link: [vidlink]video id #[/vidlink]

"Comedy is a dying breed." -- kisanzi // "Comedy. Serious business." -- dokidoki // "Anybody want a pizza roll?"

Corran added an "embed" code to embed a playable version of your video in the forum. This is a feature for donators, as long as they haven't disabled streaming.
More information can be found here, but basically, go to the Embed Generator page to create the tag. (You need more than just the video ID number)
