Converting: OGM->WMV?

Postby Wished » Mon May 07, 2007 10:38 pm

What good programs will encode OGM (and perhaps MKV) files to WMV? Preferrably, it'd be WMV, but my second-in-line choice would be AVI if it isn't possible. My current converter, Super, is running into problems while converting OGM->WMV, let alone an AVI->WMV, and I've never ran into a problem with it before.

Why do you want WMV files in the first place? If it's so you can edit them, I'll say right now that you'll have less chance of crashing your editing program and retain higher visual quality if you use lossless AVIs instead.

Because I use WMM to make my AMVs, and WMV would be the best codec. Avi, of course, works, but I'm running into a problem converting my ogm to an avi as well.

like this:

JaddziaDax wrote:open the video file in virtualdub mod go to video->compression->Huffyuv

then go to file->save

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

Thanks. ^_^ I have a question though. One of my OGMs and one of my MKVs have subtitles. But.. uh, it seems like they're not exactly hardsubbed in b/c my player can change the font of it just like it can to softsubs, even though there isn't a subtitle file with it. I'm guessing it's embedding with the OGM/MKV, but I'm wondering now how to convert it WITHOUT subs in the way. :/

Oh yeah. And a question about making clips in vdub - how come I can only make one "clip" with those buttons at a time for one ep? Because once I try to start a new marking point, the other one disappears. I'm only using a few clips from a certain episode, so I don't wanna do the whole thing. Probably a noob question. .__.

because that's how the program works?
it would be a bit harder to program something with multiple in/out points

alternatively you could just use job control
an alternative to the alternative is to get rid of everything you don't want (mark a section with in/out and press the delete key)

lol, seem to contradict yourself there a bit, but either way, if you want to change the font you can demux the subs with virtualdubmod and change the srt file yourslef, you can also selectect to turn the sub stream off before you re-encode in vitualdubmod.......I assume you origianlly had dvd so next time sort it out BEFORE you get to this stage.

Also if you writing your own subs to create like a story or something you can time it yourself in in premiere or check out this site

I'm sure this is covered in the forum elsewhere....

AHAHAHAHAHA :lol: Its obviously a fansub - probably from one of the groups that does it's releases after the DVDs come out in the U.S. or one of the few that care to soft sub their releases. Noone with the technical knowledge to dump a DVD to OGM would be asking a question this simple on the forums.
