problem with mkv files using avisynth

Postby Jasta85 » Sat May 05, 2007 12:06 pm

ok, i use adobe primiere pro 2.0 and neither it nor virtualdub accept mkv files. avisynth allows you to turn mkv files into avi ones so virtual dub can use them, the problem is that when i export the avi file it is very choppy, both in sound and in video footage and unsuable for any amvs. is there something special you do to get mkv files turned into smooth avi files? thanks ahead of time

What codec are you using to encode the AVIs? (Of course, unless you have some reason for needing the audio, you should be omitting it entirely to save space and processing power.)

If directshowsource dos not work directly from the mkv, try demuxing it and then dss the ripped stream.

try using virtualdubmod to demux all the audio tracks and subtitles tracks, Then just go to Compression > Direct Stream Copy and save it as an avi. Then just make clips from it for premiere

sorry all i know is directshowsource, what is the syntax for demuxing?

and i tried uncompressed first when i exported and then did huffy which was better as the sound stopped chopping but the visual was still a bit inconsistant

Go here and download one of the matroska editors and it's really self explanatory to de-mux the video stream.

HuffYUV and uncompressed files will almost always play back choppily, just because the files are so huge. That doesn't mean that the video stream is actually missing frames.

It should work fine for editing purposes.

ive used huffy before and heck even uncompressed (by accident, forgot to switch before saving) and there wasnt a problem, these issues ive had occur exclusively with mkv files, or maybe its files through which i use avisynth, but when i open things in virtual dub directly or with the "open files via avisynth" option under the file menue i dont have any issues.

and yea it does get affected for editing purposes, even when exported out of adobe primiere pro and compressed into Xvid it comes out badly, maybe something with my computer

anyway, i'll try that link hydrax, thanks

just use virtualdubmod, it will work unless the mkv is encoded with something like h.264...
