It keeps saying invalid link

Post by C.Gholy » Sat May 05, 2007 7:15 am

Hi I'm trying to upload my video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlvEFka8h18

I put the link there where I am trying to upload the video on a-m-v.org but it keeps saying invalid link and it's not invalid and where it says this bit
Common Problems:
* Protocal required: http://, https://, ftp:// (done that)
* No closing / at the end of a directory: (I don't get that bit)
http://www.site.com/video/directory should be http://www.site.com/video/directory/ (I don't get this bit either)
* You just typed the name in wrong. :-)
I have typed everything correct

I don't know what to do ant advice would help

The guy who runs the org has got some kind of a hard-on for Y.o.u.t.u.b.e so probably he just blocks links to it altogether. You could upload it to the org, but that's a LOT more hassle than Y.o.u.t.u.b.e, although generally the quality will be much better (provided you encode it well, ie not wmv).

Don't argue about it though, if you do the mods/regs will get all snity and start tantruming, it's a lot like trying to talk to a Mac user whose got a hard-on for Bill Gates, it's all about the need to hate.

That and trying to keep the org from getting 1) Shut down and 2) Sued. And it's not that much of a hassle to upload a video here. Sure it has a few more steps but the end result is 100x better than boobtoob

Also, this should technically go in the Site Help fourm. :?

-Reads the link.-

...huh...so what this guy Phade is really worried about isn't the AMV community but HIS server...which is likely raking in quite a substantial profit and he's simply greedy. I mean the idea that the music industry would ~only~ allow YouTube...um...it's not like they have some kind of exclusivity contract with them. Really that "argument" if you can even call it that is completely absurd. What he's REALLY worried about is them finding the org and then demanding THEIR SHARE of HIS PROFIT. Anyone whose ever run a high end server operation whose looked at the donation stats of this site knows full well just how entirely full of shit Phade is if he's trying to claim that he's not making significant bank. And if money was ~really~ such a problem (which is highly unlikely unless some fly by night hosting company is takin him for a ride) he could just throw in Google adsense banners and generate another $200 to $500 a month easy with this sites traffic. Fact is, his "arguments" are hollow at best and it's ~so~ easy to see his true intention...he doesn't want competition and he's simply not willing to work with the music industry to legitimize his site. I saw some other posts about certain music selections that are already banned here, 10 to 1 says this guy Phade didn't put in ANY effort to WORK WITH the artists/labels, he probably acted like he was doing something wrong and the second they told him to take the stuff down he made like a stereotypical black slave screamin, "YES MASSAH, RIGHT AWAY MASSAH" rather than even attempting to START a dialogue that COULD have led to legitimization of the .org, really that's what this community needs more than anything, but Phade is a very poor leader and I doubt he'll step up to the challenge. 10 to 1 says he lets this place burn to the ground before he even considers trying to negotiate with the music industry in the way that YouTube did. I just don't think he's got the balls.

PS - If YouTube is a legitimate site now...by NOT allowing links to that site and "blurring" the name....well that's sort of like claiming, out loud, that your site IS NOT legitimate and they you're refusing to work with a LEGITIMATE site...that in and of itself will do FAR more harm than good in the long run since one of the best defenses the org could get is to align themselves with YouTube.

Like it or not, youtube is wordfiltered, we don't allow links there on the forums, and if you DON'T like it you're more than welcome to GTFO.

I wonder if that's going to be the orgs response when the music industry comes along asking questions.
