AnimeNEXT - Full Participation Listing

Post by VegettoEX » Fri Oct 11, 2002 11:56 pm

AnimeNEXT (www.animenext.org) screened its anime music video contest this evening around 7:30 pm. It's another (relatively) local Jersey con, so Meri and I packed up after class and headed on over. After the con we played DDR for a bit, but there was nothing else going on, so here we are. Heading back in the morning.

Anyway, the contest originally was planned to use Otakon's categories (verbatim), but it turns out they got SO few entries (it IS their first year...), that they cut it down to a drama-only category for competition, and screened what appeared to be two other entries afterwards. Another unfortunate-ly thing is that there was no compilation tape; all videos were played in sucession on their own tapes as they had been sent in by the creators (a la AXNY). Ah, well. After the contest submissions had been played, they filled up the remaining alloted time with random videos off the staffer's laptop.

Phew!

That's it! The winner(s) will be announced tomor... err.. this evening (heh..) at the awards ceremony, which I believe is right before the cosplay. Despite the videos being played seperately, the setup was rather nice (four big speakers in each corner of the room, SVHS player projection setup) for the small con that it is.

I know everyone's already seen all those "exhibition" videos anyway, but Meri's already asleep and I've got nothing else to do :P.

Hopefully we'll report back tomorrow night. Forgive any typos.. my eyes are starting to bug out. LaTeZ~

There weren't a lot of entries (eight total), but in the end, they did their best to recognize as many of those (four, which is.. well.. half) as they could during the awards ceremony (which took place after the cosplay). It seems like they "made up" a couple awards to do this, which is perfectly cool and I wish more cons would do this. It looked like they originally WERE going to play the winning videos during the ceremony, but due to either technical difficulties or lack of organization, this didn't happen.

All in all, it was a *decent* AMV contest for the con's first year. Things should pick up next year :).

Yeah, what a contest

Man that was some funny stuff. If you ask me, I think the guy handpicked those other awards.

Anyways I've a very very good feeling that for next year the music video contest will be a lot different and will no doubt be a lot better than this years.

Not that I'm saying this contest was bad or anything, but it could'v ebeen a lot better. Guess we all learn from mistakes. :P
