Conversion from .mkv to AVI

Postby kiarrens » Wed Apr 25, 2007 8:05 pm

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search of the forum and didn't come up with much of anything, nor have I seen it in the guides (although it's entirely possible I missed it somewhere in there...).
I've got the first two episodes of Romeo x Juliet and want to do a little trailer to get people interested in the series, but they're .mkv files. VirtualDub won't read them (Error: Found a frame with only one (forward) ref, unhandled!), DGIndex won't read them, Vdub won't read them if I change the extension to .avi or .mpg, and neither AVS scripts (AVISource or DirectShowSource) are working.
Any suggestions?

Does VirtualDubMOD work?

Also, what version of AVISynth are you using, and what error do you get when using DirectShowSource()? Have you tried specifying audio=false?

Scintilla: Looks like AVS2.0, I'm pretty sure it's the newest version, I had to do a re-install about a month ago so I've got the latest version of the App. VirtualDub works for everything else, just not for this type of file, I guess...
DirectShowSource doesn't give me any type of an error, it just freezes VDub and the program crashes ("not responding"). Still freezes when I try with audio=false.

Purge: Since I can't load them into Vdub, I don't know how to determine which compression they are, XviD or h.264. I'll look for the raws, thanks. :)

Thank you both for responding so quickly. ^^ This is really annoying that it won't work.

Oh wow nevermind there's a Vdub error...

Avisynth open failure:
DirectShowSource: Could not open as video or audio.

Video returned: "DirectShowSource couldn't open file ___ Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported.

Same for audio.

AVISynth 2.0.x is really old at this point. Latest stable version is 2.5.7, which you can get from the Sourceforge page; just make sure to uninstall any previous versions first, and don't try it if you're currently in the middle of an editing project, as it may screw things up.
