Why do people read the bible? The same reason; people love stories of out of the ordinary events. I fail to see how anime is different from any other set of mythos and stories people have enjoyed for millenia.

I don't care how strange our fiction seems, anime has a WTF factor of 3 times that of ours. I mean, half of them don't have noses! they are mostly suppose to be Asian, but half of them look white!
And the hair! "Hey, that's a good idea ...solid plot ... but lets give her purple hair, its prettier!"

yeah, but certain tribes thought LSD was a link to the spirit world, so they have a excuse. Japanese don't even know what drugs ARE. they do this stuff sober.
