how does sailor moon take place in the future?

 Your an dumbass, and you must be a big DBZ fan! What keeping the US from drawing in japanese style, motherfaker :P, I gave you my thoughts and crap, so i not trying to make you think ne different.

i *used* to like dbz, but that was like 4 years ago. it started to suck about 25 epi's in. anyway, i have no idea what the hell you're talking about. my point was that americans have a wrong definition of anime, just like they have a wrong definition of otaku. this means that if americans draw japanimation style, then many americans wont consider it anime cuz it didnt come from japan, but japanese will, because its animation.

also, its A dumbass. and motherfaker im not going to say anything about because i dont know the extent of your knowledge about japanese animation, so insulting you wouldnt make sense.

*vomits on thread*

Changing the course of my vain battle.

Just to clear things up. DBZ actually occurs in the past, and not on our Earth.

DBZ occurs on a planet similar to Earth, and thus reffered to as Earth, and the main events transpire in the 700's

Anime is pretty much an offshoot of manga which is an art form. Cartoon is ment to entertain children and not have a focus on adults as much. As much as I hate it hentai is a form of anime (even though "hentai" literally means pervert). So anime and cartoon are not the same thing.

sigh...yes! it! is!

im gonna keep saying this until you people get it through your skulls.

1. american cartoons and anime were both born out of comics, so by your resoning they're both anime/cartoons.

2. it is an american misconception that cartoons=kids, this is just how its evolved over the years. all cartoons are not meant to entertain kids, all anime are not meant to entertain adults. for example the clerks series and mission hill, and hamtaro and pokemon.

Obviously Cartoon doesn't = Kids!!! I'm not saying that Anime aren't Cartoons because I would be afraid to admit that I watch Cartoons, because I wouldn't be afraid to admit that I watch Cartoons, because I do watch stuff like Sponge Bob Square Pants. I say Animes aren't Cartoons because Animes aren't Cartoons!! (Make sence?)

Cartoons came from Cartoon Comics. Anime came from Mangas!!! Magna and Cartoon Comics are very different, and so are Anime and Cartoons!!!

no they are not.

both are comics...a comic is a story told in pictures, which is what a manga is. manga is just a style of comic, as japanimation is a style of cartoon (im using japanimation to denote japanese art style from now on)

cartoon=kids here, unless youre a japanimation fan.

Wow this thread is long.

Look, people.

Anime is the japenese shortening of the word "Animation" which isn't even a japanese word in the first place.

Cartoon is a word americans and other english speaking types use for animation.

so, if anime means animation, and cartoon means animation, cartoon means anime, and vice versa.

Same thing with the terms manga and comic. big deal. different languages, different terms, same thing.

And BTW, not all anime come from Manga. Tenchi Muyo is a good example. It was an anime before it was a manga.

heh that's all I think :P

Could be, I dunno. All I know is that the Japanese like to shorten words.. like, A LOT. :P So I just figured that's where it came from... it's what I always had thought.

actually, I've heard that the Japanese say "anime" as the shortened version of "animeshon" (from the English word) like the earlier post said (sorry, I forgot who said it :P) .. and is not based on the French word. But you never know -- I just haven't seen many French words pop up in Japanese language..

Anyway, about the cartoon/anime debate -- it doesn't matter what the dictionary definition of cartoon is - the simple fact is that people in America see "cartoons" as "shows for kids" .. that may not be correct, but people believe it, and that's why I don't think anime should be classified as a "cartoon" -- although I won't jump down anyone's throat for saying it. I just think that anime does not fit the general American view of "cartoon".
