I'm new with AMVs and need a bit of help...

I was told to try here for documentation on how to rip scenes from DVDs as I only have a laptop, not enough space to download a downloading program let alone download the clips.

I've never made an AMV, nor have I tried, though I want to learn. I have some ideas of what I want, I just need some help getting there.
I've had some help from someone and he's been great, and then told me to come here about the ripping so...here I am.

If you don't have enough space for downloaded animé, you probably don't have enough space for DVD rips either. Ripped straight off a DVD, a standard 20-minute episode will take up somewhere between 750 MB and 1 GB.

Never mind that actually, I just found my USB port flash drive, that'd work.

I don't think a flash drive will last you too long.
Not even PNY's 8GB one.

if you want to make amvs, I'd suggest investing in an external usb/firewire drive (which have become quite affordable, starting at around $60)
anyway, Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides

it's very good (although a bit technical...it may take a few times to understand everything) and includes the amvapp.
In the amvapp you will find a program called dvdDecrypter (there is a section in the guide dedicated to ripping dvds with dvdDecrypter)

the rest of the guide goes over footage prep, setting up your project, exporting and the final encode.
in addition, you may want to look at the other guides as well

Do you think it'd be better to just download them? I was told to get raw clips so there are no sub titles and stuff, which is why i thought to use my own dvds.

I have an external usb drive, 60gb (I call it a flash drive, sorry >< I get mixed up alot)

Guh, this is all very confusing. I'm just trying to work out the best way to go about getting the clips

Your version looks less complicated, which is good for me as I get confused easily. Does it work good for your though?

i think it takes more time depending on if i have to pre-process (clean) more or if i can just post process clean...

it works good for me... O.o I've been thinking of "updating" it though cause there are some things that i need to add to it...

it works good for me though...
also what editing program are you planning on using?

ah then you should also check out the WMM FAQ and Set up settings and export settings so you know how to set up your project and stuff...

also alot of "problems" you might have with the program can be answered in the Windows Movie Maker forum... so if you have a problem you should check and see if someone posted about it there first (since alot of the posts are answered in the FAQ, and in other posts), and if there is no answer then post one yourself :)

Guh, I'm starting to wonder if all this messing around is worth it. I'm going to be pending alot of time asking people questions, i can see it how -sighs-

Oh well, as long as I have fun making AMVs i guess.
