it sounds like what Scintilla said, and that FFDShow is screwing it all up...
did you uncheck all the codecs you have supported already... be sure to uncheck XVID DIVX and any codec that looks like it says MPG4 in the title

I will say you must get the MPEG4 if you have DivX/Xvid this file mostly now if you get anime on the other site they use mp4 or ogg files so get those codec for sure you can edit it on your wmm.... :/

I don't think the ffdshow is the problem because I uninstalled it.

I'm going to try converting my files to MPEG or WMV and see if that makes WMM happy.

okay but that will end up losing more quality...

when i install the app i usually install everything EXCEPT for FFDShow cause it always has given me issues (not with wmm, but in other areas)

are you sure you dont want to try huffyuv? its supposed to be very compliant with wmm from what im told

True, but I installed AMVapp without huffyuv, ffdshow, and xvid and I still had the same problem.

I'll try huffyuv but I'm worried about the big files. My computer isn't as free and speedy as it used to be.

Nope, that didn't work either.

No matter why type of file extention, .avi or .wmv, my WMM still gets and error and I have to close it.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

My WMM is fine. It was just hating my converted files. I converted to huffyuv and it is perfectly fine.

I'm so non-tech savvy, I really am sorry.
