I'm pretty sure AMVapp killed my WMM.

Although WMM is no angel, now mine's really got problems.

It worked as well as WMM will work since I began making AMVs.

Last night, I downloaded and installed AMVapp to rip some videos in preparation for a new AMV that I am planning to make. Ever since doing this, my WMM has been nothing but a huge problem.

First, it would close automatically after opening a project or importing some files into it. I uninstalled AMVapp and it stopped closing itself and I thought my problems were solved.

But now, I have another problem.

Either after I open an existing project or import files into my collection, my WMM locks up for a moment, and then I get the message that an error has occurred and I need to close WMM, and I get the option of sending an error report.

My WMM never had this problem until I installed AMVapp.

Does anything know how I can fix this so I can resume making AMVs?

Did you install ffdshow as part of the AMVapp? If so, I highly recommend going into the ffdshow settings and disabling its support for every codec that you already have separately (both video AND audio codecs).

I did.

But I uninstalled AMVapp, so how would I disable ffdshow now?

also this one:

if you install the ffdshow make sure you to config your FFDshow on your start menu. hot to do that here:

Code: Select all
start menu >> open all programs >>> look for your ffdshow then click one of that to config.

hope this one will help you.

Okay, when you go into the ffdshow video decoder configuration, you see a table on the right side of the window, right? And it's got three columns: Format, Decoder, and Supported FourCCs/remarks.

Every time you see a codec in the Format column that you already have as a separate codec, click its corresponding value in the Decoder column and a drop-down box should appear. Use it to select "disabled".

Hmm.

Maybe my WMM has just seen it's final days.

I disabled the codecs like the steps told, that didn't help.

I uninstalled AMVapp and all it's parts, that didn't help.

I restarted my computer, that didn't help.

Still not solution to my problem. X.X

I have accepted that WMM is really buggy because I've made four AMVs and two other videos with it.

The problem is I can't even use WMM because of the problem I am having. I either try and open a project and it has to close because of an error, or I try and put a clip on the storyboard and it closes because of an error.

WMM is the only program I have to make AMVs.

did you check the codec of the video are you trying to open? or did you check how many files inside of your wmm added there?

That usually cause of another problem to window movie maker :?

if youre using DIVX/XVID encoded clips/source files then that can cause WMM to crash in the first place... try using virutaldub mod to reincode them to huffyuv, and only cut out small parts, because huffyuv makes large files

The files I'm putting in there are .avi

I'm still working on a codec list.

right click on the file, go to "properties" and choose the summery tab... it should tell you there what the video compression of your source files are
