Despite the source that was awesome. I'm curious, how much was pure footage, and how much was blender/effects?

Wow, this is really something, tryth. It's a shame that the song is kinda anti-climatic at the end, because I could watch motion like this for hours on loop. Real entrancing kinda stuff.

I'm curious, though, since I don't know the sources: how much of this is natural 3-D source footage and how much was your 3-D editing? Your best estimate, percentage-wise.

Anyway, whatever mistakes you might think are in this video are totally blind to my eyes, as I just see a pure flow of movement, totally unbroken. Amazing stuff, here. Fucking awsm job on your part, tryth. :D

EDIT: ha, Orwell beat me to the question. XD

Title does not compute......

.....though it did bring a good amount of hope into it.

I think you were able to finally make your concept come alive. I understand you may not be happy with it, but I think it turned out great. Good work pal :)

I'm really glad that my employer operates on flex-time. I'd be so fired otherwise for repeatedly showing up late to work this past month :P

A lot of the rapid-motion stuff and/or slightly more subtle footage alterations was either Blender or AE. AE was used where I couldn't really do what I wanted to do in a true 3D environment (yeah, as weird as that sounds...I blame me for being too weak to adhere to my open-source-tools-only zealotry when faced with a deadline.) Most of the slower, more fleshed-out motion was present in the sources, with the exception of the "...surrender" Earth scene, which was Blender and 2D footage, and the spinning wireframe globe, which was inspired by a similar scene in Pale Cocoon.

Most of the transitions between the two anime were also done with Blender, AE, or both. The opening sequence, in particular, is a mixture of stylistic elements from Pale Cocoon and the ending sequence of Freedom 1, reversed and heavily time-remapped.

(shameless plug: If you're going to ACen, and you're interested in more information, drop by the 3D AMV panel that ZephyrStar and I will do -- I'll explain and demo the techniques behind the camera / other 3D junk I did. Compared to what ZS is doing, it's actually very simple stuff :) )

The real accolades here, of course, need to go to Yasuhiro Yoshiura, for Pale Cocoon, and the Freedom Committee. They've done CG far beyond what I'm currently capable of, and any awesome motion work in this video is theirs, not mine.

Yeah, I figure someone's bound to be disappointed by the title :P

As uncharacteristic and weird as this might sound -- I think I actually hit a point where I was reasonably happy with the video, and the implementation of the concept. (I probably wouldn't have bothered to release it otherwise :P )

I can still see a lot of problems, but those are just things to address next time, I suppose.

Transition between 1:34 - 1:35 was kinda rough. Like Ultima said, I thought the ending was really anti climactic. Not much you can do about it though since it's the song.

Overall that was really awesome. 9.5/10
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

You already know how much ass I think this video kicks. So glad to finally see it in high res, and finished. This video is pure awesome; sick 3D motion, (mostly) great pacing, and an original concept that wraps up nicely by the end. If this is competing in drama at ACen I'm screwed (not that my video has a chance anyway >_>) :P

5/5

Very, very cool. I think I understand your description - and we can all deal with a small dose of pretension in a while, so it's all good. :P
