Recording sound from a YouTube video

Postby Daniel_BMS » Mon Jan 08, 2007 1:00 pm

Is it possible to record just the soundtrack of a YouTube video? I thought it would easy to rip/record just the music, but it's not easy at all. Has anybody done this successfully?

You can record it using the sound recorder in Audiograbber
http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/
Why do you wanna record the audio from one of those videos? o.O

 "Boochsack". I almost missed my own post due to this unexpected edit.

I am trying to record audio off of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAyd4d3qpKc I have requested a high quality MP3 from Bustatoons hoping to get something better, but for now I would like to have my own copy. I will try the Audio Grabber program for now.

Nevermind I found an MPEG version from ehttp://bustatoons.blogspot.com/2006/11 ... words.html I had trouble visiting the site since I kept clicking the defunct www.bustatoons.com site.

The only thing I want off of YouTube now is an avi/mpeg of Bambee http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK8ylyM3vtQ

I got it! What you do is open up Video LAN Player, select wizard, select to transcode a file, open up the file you want, select to transcode the audio, choose uncompressed floating, process the video, and VLP will produce a raw file. Add a .wav file extension to the file and you now have a sound file the same quality as the video! Choosing any other option such as MPEG Audio, MP3, or OGG won't work. Only the uncompressed options work properly if you just want to rip the sound.

Also you can't process both the video & audio and expect to be able to rip the audio from the video later. I've tried it 6 different ways and it won't work. Just rip an uncompressed wav instead.

Even KaZaA is better than doing that.

Well we have the renaissance of YouTube to thank for a great deal of videos only avaliable in horrible quality.

Still, I would rather never edit again than use youtube as a source. Are you sure there's no other way?

Well for certain YouTube videos you can PM the poster and ask for the higher quality version. It's worked a few times, but not always.
